Chelsea FC will host Luton Town FC in the English Premier League 3rd round match at the Stamford Bridge Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, August 26, beginning at 00:30 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Chelsea News & Current Form:

The 32nd edition of the English Premier League is gradually gaining momentum. On August 26 there will be a meeting that will open the 3rd round. Chelsea and Luton Town will meet at Stamford Bridge stadium.

Chelsea have undergone a major transformation over the summer. Mauricio Pochettino became the head coach.  With the new manager the team made a thorough cleaning of the squad, spending almost 400 million euros to buy new players and selling their players for the amount of 250 million.

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo was signed and prolific midfielder of RB Leipzig Christopher Nkunku, who was crowned as the best player in the Bundesliga at the end of the season before last.

The Aristocrats had a very productive training camp. In five friendly matches they did not suffer a single defeat. They defeated Wrexham AFC (5 – 0), Brighton & Hove Albion FC (4 – 3) and Fulham FC (2 – 0). They drew with Newcastle United FC (1 – 1) and Borussia Dortmund (1 – 1). Pochettino has improved many components of Chelsea’s game, with a particular focus on physics.

The result of Mauricio’s efforts was that in two EPL matches against Liverpool FC and West Ham United FC, the Blues showed a good passing game. In both meetings, they possessed the ball much more and created more dangerous chances than their opponents. Everything would be all right, but they failed to win.

The meeting with the Merseysiders ended in a draw – 1 – 1. The match with the Hammers was a 1 – 3 defeat, although Pochettino’s men had every chance to at least equalize. Moreover, they could have taken the lead at the end of the first half if Enzo Fernandez had converted a penalty.

Mikhail Mudryk, player who is yet to show his talent at Chelsea FC

The Blues missed their chances and gave West Ham a goal. The fact that the opponents played in the minority from the 67th minute didn’t help them. Mikhail Mudryk, who was bought in the middle of last season at a highly overpriced price, left the pitch without any results. He hasn’t scored in 18 matches in a row in all official tournaments.

Will the Ukrainian manage to break his goal drought in the upcoming game? Pochettino said that Mykhailo has an extraordinary talent. The Argentine emphasized that Mudryk just needs time to adjust properly and find a way to perform as expected of him.

Chelsea will be unable to count on the captain Reece James and summer acquisition Nkunku on Friday. Key French defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile also remain out of the squad, as well as Marcus Bettinelli, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broya.

Luton Town News & Current Form:

Last season, Luton Town competed in the Championship division. They came third and earned the right to play in the promotion play-offs. In the final of the qualifying tournament the Hatters beat Coventry City FC (1 – 1, 6 – 5 penalties).

Luton thus secured their first ever EPL entry. In the summer, Rob Edwards almost completely renewed the squad. Coach had to adapt a huge number of new recruits to his system, as well as to fine-tune chemistry.

At the training camp, the team from Luton showed themselves quite well. It lost only to VfL Bochum (2 – 1). The players beat first Peterborough United FC (3 – 1), and then Sheffield Wednesday FC (2 – 1). Draws have been played with Ipswich Town FC (1 – 1) and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (0 – 0).

Thomas Kaminski – hero of the game with Brighton & Hove Albion FC

However, in the match of the 1st round of the championship of England wards of Edwards defeated Brighton (1 – 4). The opponent made as many as 27 strikes, 12 of which came in the goal. Had it not been for the Hatters’ goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, who made eight saves, the score would have been indecent.

In addition, the team has played only one official game so far this season. Last weekend, the Black and Whites were forced to postpone their first home game with Burnley FC because the stadium expansion work was not completed on time.

Speaking of the summer transfer window, the Hatters had a modest summer transfer campaign, spending just €20 million on new players. The coaching staff still has to do without the main defenders Reece Burke, Dan Potts and Gabriel Osho, as well as the key midfielder Jordan Clark (3 goals and 4 assists in the championship) – they are injured.

What has been said before the match:

The Blues’ coach Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the game with Luton Town:

“It is a matter of time for the players to understand our philosophy and the way we play. It is a process. We cannot force it, it is all about work and confidence. At the moment, we need to provide the tools to improve every day. The way we are performing shows we are in a good way and it is only a matter of time until we put it all together.”

“We need to adapt and be positive. The players need to work. This process is tough for them. It is tougher for the players than us and we need to translate a good energy. Sometimes we are disappointed because we play well and don’t get the points and they need to feel we support them and we are behind them. It is not an easy job but it is a massive challenge, and a challenge that we enjoy.”

“It is going to be a tough game. We were analyzing them, they are a strong team who are clear in the way they play. They run really fast in transition, they are strong in set pieces. We need to respect them and match them.”

“We will be there to compete for a positive result for our fans, for the club. It’s time now for the club to compete at the highest level”,

said Marvelous Nakamba of the Hatters.

Chelsea vs Luton Town Prediction:

The game will see both teams intensely motivated from the kick-off. Chelsea need to get in shape amidst a hectic transfer policy and a lot of money spent. Luton Town are eager to shout about themselves, trying to snatch points away from the high-profile favorites. The Hatters are expected to exploit defensive low-block approach and try to minimize the free areas for the Blues in the final third. Naturally, the Aristocrats are backed by class and experience of constant performances in the elite, thanks to which they are capable of picking up points even if their game is not particularly cohesive and established. Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff will certainly be able to find the key to cracking the physical but modest backline set up by Rob Edwards. There is more than enough talent and performers, the 13 times difference in the cost of the squads illustrates the pre-match inputs more than clearly. A convincing win is as important as air for Enzo Fernández and Co.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Chelsea will win with a handicap of (-1.5) – Yes.
