Chelsea will host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge in the 27th round of the English Premier League. The match will take place on May 20, beginning at 00:30 IST.

In the English Premier League, everyone is keeping a close eye on the title race between Liverpool and Manchester City. However, there are enough interesting encounters without that. On 19-20 May night, for example, there will be a rescheduled match of the 27th round. Two very bright and interesting squads, Chelsea and Leicester, will contest in London.

Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Chelsea News & Current Form:

The Londoners are third in the Premier League standings. They are 16 points behind second-placed Liverpool, but the gap from 4th-placed Tottenham is just two points. However, Spurs have played one more match and Thomas Tuchel is unlikely to concede the hot bronze-medal seat.

Recently, the German specialist’s charges faced Liverpool in the FA Cup. The encounter was played at equal speed and was memorable for its intensity. Both teams created a lot of chances, but could not decide the winner in regulation and extra time – 0-0. In the penalty shoot-out, the Reds were luckier.

Now the Aristocrats are likely to concentrate on the remaining rounds of the current EPL schedule, maybe to try some new tacktics. In other competitions, the journey is over as well. In the League Cup, they reached the final – lost to Liverpool, while in the Champions League they reached the quarter-finals. In the latter, the English gave Real Madrid a massive challenge, but magnificent Karim Benzema snatched the tickets to the next stage.

Despite the lacklustre play of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku, the Blues have been very productive this season. The team was very interesting to watch. They showed flexibility, easily adapting to the high tempo of strong opponents, while delighting with the goal performance. It seems that they won’t have any problems in the remaining rounds of the EPL season. And, moreover, they have an assurance, that after nice summer pre-season and some rest, the team will definitely remain competitive, perhaps even be able to compete for the title.

Leicester City News & Current Form:

Leicester, on the other hand, sit ninth in the English Premier League table and are out of contention for next season’s European competition slots. The club have failed to climb any higher due to the instability, which is partly caused by the prolonged absence of their leader, Jamie Vardy.

The prolific striker has missed almost half the season through injury. He has only recently climbed out of the sickbay and has featured in the last five rounds of the PL. However, in that period, the Foxes picked up only two victories – over already-relegated Norwich (3-0) and Watford (5-1). They also drew with Aston Villa 0-0, and suffered defeats at the hands of Newcastle 1-2 and Tottenham 1-3.

Vardy’s efforts, when he was availible, were not enough to succeed in European competitions. Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to overcome even the group stage in the Europa League, and in the UEFA Conference League semi-finals they were unable to beat Roma of Jose Mourinho. The forward spent 62 minutes in the first leg against Roma and 90 minutes in the return leg. But he failed to produce any useful action. The Portuguese even was left in tears as Italians booked a place in the first ever final of Conference League. So the tournament can’t be called completely insignificant.

However, it is hardly likely that anyone will criticise the forward for that. But there will be questions to the defensive line. Over 36 rounds in the English championship, the Foxes have conceded 57 goals, while scoring, by the way, the same amount. Their defensive solidity was also poor in the Europa League. The experienced Kasper Schmeichel had 11 goals in six group stage encounters. It should be noted that, if Leicester had a different goalkeeper, the conceded goals statistics would probably have been poorer.

What has been said before the match:

Thomas Tuchel:

“It’s not a good moment to start now to be fourth. We still have our demands and what we demand of ourselves. We are happy we secured a top-four place, this is the first target when we start the season. But still it’s two home game and we will do everything to win them.”

“They have found their form back and score a lot lately. They had a very up and down season, but at their top level, they are a dangerous team to everybody. They can hurt you in seconds with quality, speed, attacking mindset and fluid in attack. We will prepare for the very best version of Leicester, and we will need the very best version of us to be competitive. I don’t want to predict the game because I don’t know what’s coming. Let’s be open for everything. Hopefully, we find answers.”

he said about how the Blues would prepare for the Foxes.

Brendan Rodgers

“I would go as far as to say they [Chelsea] are the best team we have played this season. When we played them early on in the season, they were at the top of their game. I thought they were outstanding. Not long after that moment, they lost some players. I’ve said it before, even with squads like Chelsea’s, you need your top players available.”

“Over the course of the time, they have had players out, key players who make the systems function to the highest level. Then obviously, there’s the distractions behind the scenes, and of course, that’s a challenge. But what I do know is they’ve got an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job since he’s been there. They’ve got a group of really good players, top, top talents.”

“I saw them lose in the FA Cup final, but they have so much courage because they keep getting there. And you’d rather be in there and losing finals – of course, you want to win – but you’d rather be arriving there knowing it’s going to drop your way and you’re going to win in the future.”

“So they are a top team, with top players, and they are in the Champions League next season, and I expect them to be up there challenging again next season.”

Chelsea vs Leicester City Prediction:

Despite the relatively poor form of their main forwards, the Aristocrats have managed to reach high stages in various competitions. They have shown quality football, always playing to win.

The motivation not to relinquish third place in the standings to Tottenham and Leicester’s unreliable defensive performance augur well for their victory. Vardy’s return to action will help the Foxes fight back, but it is likely to have an impact only on the brightness of the encounter, not the result. The Blues’ defence against Liverpool proved that they can confidently hold off even England’s most dangerous trio of forwards. They can certainly stop Vardy. In the last two head-to-head encounters, the home side have been stronger. It seems they’ll win this time, too.

Chelsea will try to close the last home game with a nice victory and thank the fans for their support in this difficult year for the team. Leicester are doubtful to get in the way.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Chelsea to win and the match total less than 4.5 – Yes.
