As expected, the Atletico – Chelsea match is not rich in goalscoring chances, with just two shots on target in the first half.

The most dangerous moment was Werner’s powerful effort from an acute angle after running away from a defender. Oblak was there, it’s asking a lot to beat one of the world’s best keepers from there

Chelsea possessed the ball 71.3% of the time, which was comfortable for the Madrid side. Atletico seem to be just waiting for the right moment.

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman shared his opinion:

“Atletico are happy to give up a lot of territory when Chelsea are in possession but the moment they do get into the Chelsea half, they are pressing very aggressively. They are not giving Chelsea any time to pass the ball around their own half.”

Atletico Madrid had just one shot in the first half, their lowest total after 45 minutes in a Champions League match since the 2016-17 semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.

  • Azpilicueta is the best player of the first half with 7.2 points.
  • Chelsea’s bench this match has players with a total value of $420 million.
  • Chelsea attempted 403 passes in the first half, over 100 more than any of Atleti’s opponents in the first half of a Champions League game this season.
