Brighton & Hove Albion FC will host Newcastle United FC in the English Premier League 4th round match at the American Express Community’s Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, September 2, beginning at 22:00 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Brighton News & Current Form:

The last season was the most successful in Brighton’s history. The Seagulls managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa League and generally showed a very high-quality game with the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi.

It was confusing that Roberto had not worked in England before, moreover, outside of his homeland he worked briefly and controversially with FC Shakhtar Donetsk. But the Italian gave results immediately, lifting Albion to 6th place.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side started the season, you could say, better than anyone else, with two 4:1 victories over Luton Town FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. But in the last round the team faced a well-structured defense of West Ham United FC, with which they could not cope, and eventually lost on home field with a score of 1:3.

But in the last meeting against the Hammers the Seagulls reminded of their problems of low efficiency last season. In the match against West Ham, Roberto De Zerbi’s side produced the second-highest possession rate in the EPL (77.8 percent) and took twice as many shots as their opponents. Having touched the ball 68 times in the opponent’s penalty area, the team from Brighton managed to score only 1 goal, and in each of the rounds they allowed the opponent to create at least 1.5 xG in front of their goal.

At the moment the Seagulls are in sixth place, and having 6 points in three matches, and moreover, 9 goals scored against opponents is not a bad result.  Brighton, despite the defeat in the last round, is the team demonstrating nearly the most high-quality football in the new season.

The team leads the EPL in terms of xG. And what De Zerbi’s team is doing on the pitch really deserves respect. Very organized, very clear play this season, usually from the opponent. Lightning-fast counter-attacks – it’s a pleasure to watch the ball being delivered from their own half to someone else’s in a short pass.

Here we are at the end of the summer transfer window. During this period, the club was again selling stars expensively. For example, Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool FC, Moises Caicedo and Robert Sanchez to Chelsea FC, for two players the London club gave almost 140 million.

On top of that, Ansu Fati is set to join the team on a 1-year loan from FC Barcelona. In general, the team looks very interesting, which, hopefully, this season will make another step up in the standings. It also should be noted that striker Julio Enciso will miss about 3 months due to injury.

“This is a great deal for all of us. I am sure Ansu will help us to reach a new target and we can help him get back to the level he deserves to be.”

Men’s first team head coach Roberto De Zerbi commented on the arrival of the player:

“We are delighted to bring Ansu to the club. He is one of the most highly-rated young players in the world and arrives with an impressive amount of experience both domestically and in European competition, despite his age.”

Technical director David Weir said:

“This season is the biggest in the club’s history and we’re really happy that a player of Ansu’s quality is going to be part of it. We will give him the opportunity to embed himself in the squad and to get used to working with Roberto, but naturally we’re excited to see him in a Brighton shirt.”

Newcastle United News & Current Form:

The club was an even bigger, arguably, revelation last season than Brighton. Progress under Eddie Howe continued, eventually bringing a long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years. Throughout the 2022/2023 campaign, the Magpies were consistently top of the table and finished in 4th place ( even reaching the EFL Cup final).

The team also started the championship with a big win, defeating Aston Villa FC 5:1 at home. But in the next two rounds Eddie Howe’s wards faced opponents, claiming the highest places in the Premier League – and eventually lost.

In the round before last, the team lost to Manchester City (1:0). Last weekend, the Black and Whites also suffered a defeat. In their home walls they were weaker than Liverpool (1:2). In this meeting Newcastle were the first to open the scoring, and a few minutes later they got numerical superiority. It seemed that another home victory of Eddie Howe’s boys was already in the pocket, but the double of Darwin Nunez with goals in the 81st and 93rd minutes deprived them of points.

In fact, Eddie Howe’s men looked more than decent in both lost encounters. Each time they lacked just a little bit to gain points. We can see the progress of the team, the middle line looks quite interesting. Also the team is great on the counterattack and is tactically diverse.

Forward Joelinton, midfielder Joseph Willock and defender Sven Botman are in Newcastle’s infirmary.

What has been said before the match:

“I’m really disappointed with the result. We were unlucky, we didn’t play badly. The first goal was very strange and then we shot 27 times but we didn’t find the goal and in counter-attack they scored two more goals.”

Gaffer of the Seagulls De Zerbi commented on the loss against West Ham United FC

“The first goal was crucial in the game. After it they defended deeper and there was much less space and it’s difficult to find the spaces when one team is within 20 meters of their goal. If you keep the ball for a long time like we did today it’s normal that the opponent can counter-attack.”

“We attacked stronger in the second half and if we make it 1:1 it can be a totally different game. We made a lot of mistakes with the last pass but we are Brighton, and we can’t forget that.”

“I’m proud of the players, their attitude and behavior. Losing can happen, it’s not a problem and on Monday we start a new week with the same enthusiasm and passion to win the next game.”

“My attitude to these things is we’ll get who we get. There’s no preconceived idea in my mind of what I’m looking for so I’m very relaxed. It was the same for the Carabao Cup draw although we couldn’t have gotten a harder draw.”

Eddie Howe, head coach of Newcastle United FC, about the Champions League draw and previous games in this season so far:

“The mentality for us, no matter who we play, has to be an attitude of no fear or doubt and let’s embrace everything it is going to bring. It will challenge us hugely. Those teams have played in Europe for many, many years and they have excelled.”

“There’s no doubt about the size of the challenge but bring it on. That has to be how we feel and that’s what I encourage my players to think. I think it’s exciting.”

“There’s not a lot you can do. The start of the fixture list was very difficult in the Premier League and we’ve been tested, playing the top teams. I always think that makes you better, playing against the elite teams which brings your own game on so hopefully it’s a good thing for us at the start of the season.”

“I think Broghton are a very interesting team. Roberto De Zerbi has done an amazing job. He’s a very unique coach in the way he gets his teams to play. Not many, or any, coaches I’ve seen like him and the style of play is very good.”

“They’re very ball-dominated and clever with how they set their teams up. He and his players deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve done and achieved last season. They’ve started this season well.”

Brighton vs Newcastle United Prediction:

These teams have developed considerably over the course of last season. Brighton have battled their way into the Europa League and Newcastle United have made it to the Champions League for the first time in more than 20 years. In the new campaign, the two sides expect to make some noise both across Europe and the British Islands. Yet, the start of the campaign was somewhat crumpled for both camps, resulting in anticipation of an even game with a comparable scoreline like 1:1 or 2:2. At the same time, Newcastle have not yet won in Brighton in the English Elite: 4 draws and 2 defeats. So it is preferable to assume that the Seagulls will not lose this time too.

In addition, it is logical to expect an action-packed and even light-hearted football from these contestants. Speaking about Brighton alone, they have scored 123 goals in just 35 EPL matches. That’s an average of 3.51 per match, which is the highest in EPL history for coaches who have played more than 30 matches. Roberto De Zerbi now has 42 matches under his belt, and yet the coach is still in search of balance. Compared to his predecessor, the Italian has significantly improved the Gulls’ attacking ability, but the level of their defensive efforts has plummeted, which is the reason for the erratic results.

De Zerbi’s Brighton plays lacking in defense, while Newcastle, who relish space, are happy to use any free areas extremely effectively and are not afraid to move the ball vertically and rapidly. That’s why we expect counter-course football with plenty of chances and goals scored. The Gulls have not scored fewer than four goals in their past three EPL matches.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Brighton & Hove Albion will not lose and the individual total will be over 1.5 – Yes.
