The opponents are super-motivated ahead of the upcoming clash. Will the Seagulls edge closer to the UCL zone, or will the Toffees be able to snatch points from them in the fight for survival?

Brighton & Hove Albion will host Everton in the English Premier League 35th-tour match at the Amex Stadium. The fixture will take place on May 8, beginning at 22:00 IST.

What can we expect this Sunday night? Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Brighton & Hove Albion News & Current Form:

Liverpool FC are predominantly seen as Manchester United’s main rivals in the context of the battle for fourth place. And they unfairly forget Brighton, although the Seagulls are closer to the Red Devils in terms of the number of points lost.

Roberto De Zerbi may well challenge Eddie Howe for the title of the best coach of the season. Few expected the Italian to perform so superbly with Brighton, who had lost a number of key players along with Graham Potter.

In midweek, Roberto’s side hammered Manchester United in extra time to take revenge for their defeat in the FA Cup semi-finals. A 1-0 win would put Brighton in serious contention for the Eurocup, especially in light of the Red Devils losing to West Ham by the same scoreline on Sunday.

A home game against Everton is a great opportunity for Roberto De Zerbi’s men to continue their fight for the UEFA Champions League qualification, or at least significantly improve their chances of a historic breakthrough into the European competitions. Two games in reserve will put the Blue and Whites to better advantage, although of course, they have a tough calendar ahead of them: 3 top-table teams in 6 remaining fixtures (Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester City).

Nevertheless, Alexis Mac Allister and Co. deliver a remarkable combinational football, a style that, with their current chemistry, will help Brighton to give a strong response to the table leaders. Brighton prefer an attacking pattern, are capable of great team pressing, and they have 20+ shots on goal in almost every match. The only bad thing is that the Seagulls do not always score a lot. They sometimes have problems with finishing (like against Forest or MU), which can be particularly frustrating against top teams, yet it’s not critical against Everton.

The home-field factor will speak in favor of a win in the upcoming match. In the eight home games played in 2023, the Seagulls have won six at home (all of them are clean sheets) with only one defeat. Looking at the trend of performances at the Amex Stadium throughout the season, the Seagulls have lost only four matches and drawn three times in 16 rounds at home. They have scored 32 goals in that period and conceded just 14.

Everton News & Current Form:

The previous round’s match at Leicester appeared to be a must-win for the Liverpool side. At King Power, Sean Dyche’s side failed to achieve the necessary result, although at least they did not lose to a direct rival in the fight for survival.

The match was marked by some frustrating losses and the head coach was unable to crush the home side, as he lacked variation and depth off the substitute’s bench. And that frustrates the England coach, given a number of circumstances.First, Everton remain in the relegation zone. Second, the Liverpool club’s next two matches will see them play against teams fighting for the highest places (Brighton, Manchester City). Therefore, the threat of Everton’s first relegation from the elite division since 1951 remains extremely high.

Everton captain Seamus Coleman got a gruesome-looking injury in the match against the Foxes

“Just wanted to update you all, thanks so much for the well wishes. Just back home from my scan and pleased to say I have no ACL damage. Be back soon.”

said Coleman after the tests.

In addition, Sean Dyche has still not found the optimum balance between attack and defense. Since the 51-year-old coach took charge of Everton, only Leeds have a higher expected number of conceded goals. In 14 games under ex-Burnley coach, the Toffees have conceded 24 goals — a worrying figure ahead of meetings with two of the EPL’s most attacking teams. And in terms of xGD (expected goals allowed) per 90, the figure is frightening (-0.63).

Everton have the fight for survival as their motivation, and thanks to Dyche the Toffees appear to be making some progress and showing character, but they still have a lot of problems. They have nothing and no one to compensate for them; therefore, they’re going to the Amex having their hands full in the back row despite having a very slim chance.

What has been said before the match:

Brighton’s gaffer, Roberto De Zerbi:

“It will be a very tough, tough game because they are a strong team. But we want to achieve our target and I think it’s clear for everybody we are fighting against big teams – Tottenham, Aston Villa, Liverpool – for Europe.”

“And at the moment, I think we are deserving to reach the best position. We have to think not of the results, we have to be focused only on our style and quality of play. We have to be focused only on to enjoy and to show our quality because we are not used to playing for this target.”

“It’s a totally different situation now [he commented on the resounding success in Merseyside in January. When we won in Everton, it was a different team. I think when there are not many games (remaining) in the last part of the season, the games are always more difficult.”

“My players feel it’s different to play at home, now there is enthusiasm, there is an incredible energy and we are playing with 12 players.” he said about the home stands factor.

Everton’s gaffer, Sean Dyche:

“It was good to see some of the messages from myself and the coaching staff being delivered by the players
It reaffirms to them that we are on the right track. I know we aren’t in the league table, but there was a lot of good in that performance [against Leicester]. It showed a lot of the work we have been putting in.”

he reflected on the progress after the recent skirmish against the Foxes (2-2).

“We didn’t get the full reward in terms of the three points, but we got the reward in terms of the feel-good factor from the performance. And rightfully so I thought. It’s not easy on the road or in the Premier League, full stop. But on the road, definitely not.”

“Statistically we know it’s not. Yet, we gave a very thorough performance there. But it’s parked very quickly because it doesn’t guarantee the next one. We have to make sure we use it wisely, lock in all the positives but we have to go and deliver it again.  It can’t just be once every few games, there has to be consistency.“

The Englishman gave an admonition before Monday’s game.

“I thought there was only one team that was going to go on and win it on the night. That was my feeling and my opinion of it. The team was operating in the right manner. Sometimes you’ve got to be careful.”

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Everton Prediction:

A stunning 6-0 win over Wolverhampton, a confident performance with a 1-0 win over Man United – Brighton are in good form, and it seems that the Southerners will keep on going until the end of the season. It will hardly be easy against Everton, at least until the first goal is scored. But there is little doubt that the game scenario will be dictated by the home side. And the following stats are saying enough: Everton are winless in 13 games, seven of which they have lost. Brighton’s home unbeaten streak is five matches, four of which Roberto De Zerbi’s side have won. Of course, Everton will try to be feisty and defiant – what else can the Toffees do to get out of the relegation zone? However, defense will of course be paramount for Sean Dyche, as it would be naive to play open football against one of the most offensive teams in the country.
