Indian Super League announced that the fixture between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha scheduled for the standard kick-off time on Saturday has been postponed due to a Covid-19 scare.

The ISL released a statement after calling off ‘Match 53’ of the ongoing 2021-22 ISL season between the two teams from the eastern part of the country.

“Hero Indian Super League (ISL) has decided to postpone Match No. 53 between ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC scheduled to be played today, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at PJN Stadium in Fatorda. The League will look to reschedule the fixture to a later date.”

“The decision has been taken in consultation with the League’s medical team after an ATK Mohun Bagan player tested positive for Covid-19.”

“The League will work closely with the medical experts to monitor and ensure the safety of all the players and support staff in the squad and others involved.”

According to certain reports, a certain ATK Mohun Bagan player was taken to the hospital for a couple of checks and was allowed entry back into the bubble without the mandatory quarantine period which spread the scare of Covid-19 within the whole squad.

The said player has returned a positive result in the Covid-19 test and would have to test negative twice and quarantine for a set mandatory period to be decided by the league committee.

The rescheduled match is likely to be played on 23rd January/24th January with both sides not playing a match, three days either side of both dates.

Goa later faced Chennayin in the late kick-off on Saturday after their whole squad was forced to quarantine indoors for four consecutive days between Monday and Thursday while the Kerala Blasters squad was also quarantined for 24 to 48 hours after their match against Goa last Sunday.

The full extent of how much damage will be caused to the league in terms of postponements will be known in the next 24 to 48 hours as the league committee will review the whole issue in a special meeting on Sunday.
