Jamshedpur FC completed the league’s criteria of having an AFC Asian player among the foreign signings. The club signed the high-profile A-League player Nicholas John Fitzgerald for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) season 2020-21.
Nick being the seventh signing, completed the overseas quota of Jamshedpur FC.
In his career, the 28-year-old has been a part of two A-League winning campaigns, first with Brisbane Roar in 2011-12 and Central Coast Mariners in 2012-13. Nick also played with Melbourne City and helped them win the FFA Cup in 2016.
The Australian player debuted with Central Coast Mariners in 2010 as a U21 player. Later in 2011, he joined Brisbane Roar’s senior team and lifted the A-League winning title. He has a wide experience of playing with various clubs like Western Sydney, Melbourne City, and Newcastle United Jets. Nick Fitzgerald has netted 23 goals in 218 appearances in competitions across Australia in his ten years career. He last played for Newcastle United Jets and made 20 appearances in the recent season.
Nick is delighted to join the club and ready to embark on this new adventure. He will give his best to the club and play wholeheartedly for the fans, said Fitzgerald. Jamshedpur FC is his first signing outside Australia, and he is looking forward to playing under Head Coach Owen Coyle, Nick added.
The Indian Super League (ISL) is scheduled to begin in November 2020, and the clubs are building up teams. The head coach Owen Coyle is ecstatic about the Aussie winger coming onboard. Owen expressed that Nick is a versatile player and has proven his ability in Australia’s A-League. The club is confident about his abilities and is looking forward to work with him, Owen concluded.
The seventh foreign signing will don number 22 and will be joining the team squad in Goa soon.
