Shastri knows the environment better than anybody else – Salman Butt
Ravi Shastri said in an interview that Kohli could have stayed for a couple of more years but “people wouldn’t have digested his success” while on Shastri’s comment, Salman butt said that the ex-coach would have known the situation better than anybody.
The position of India’s test captain stands blank at the moment after Virat Kohli’s stepping down from the Test captaincy at the end of the South Africa test series. BCCI had earlier removed Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy and later Kohli stepped down from his Test captaincy.
He had already quit the T20 captaincy. How all the recent development occurred and controversy happened presented a bad image of Indian cricket.
Recently, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said in an interview to Aaj Tak that Kohli could have stayed on as Test captain for a couple of more years but “people wouldn’t have digested his success”. On Shastri’s comment, former Pakistani skipper Salman Butt said that the former coach would have known the situation within the Indian cricket team better than anyone else.
“Shastri knows the environment better than anybody else. We all know that the environment of India and Pakistan teams are almost similar but unfortunate that such a mindset still prevails and maybe this is the reason behind top-class athletes failing to give their best. There are many roadblocks on their path and they are their people. It’s unfortunate but (it’s) the truth,”said Salman Butt on his YouTube channel.
“For sure, he could have led India for at least two years because next two years India would be playing at home and who is coming over – 9 and 10 jacks, if you see the rankings. He would have then probably made it to 50 wins under his captaincy and then a lot of people would have had difficulties in digesting that fact,”Shastri had earlier told Sports Tak in an interview.
Kohli is India’s most successful test captain and under his captaincy, India wins 40 tests out of 68 games. India defeated Australia for the first time on his soil in the Test series and stood on the top ICC ranking for a long time.
