The MCC has called for taking measures to speed up play while analyzing teams consistently fail to bowl 90 overs in a day these days, MCC has expressed its concern while the dates and the four venues for PSL 8 were finalized at the league’s Governing Council meeting, chaired by Rami Raza, at the National High-Performance Centre in Lahore today.
West Indies women’s team deputy Anisa Mohammed has taken time away from international cricket for six months to recover their mental and body health.
“Cricket has given me all that I have, and I still love it as much as the first day I started playing, therefore this decision was not an easy one for me, especially with the T20 World Cup five months away,”
Anisa, 33, said.
“However, I must listen to my body and my mind that I need to take time away from the game at this time. This is not a permanent goodbye but rather a see you soon. I wish the team all the best in their forthcoming series, and I know Hayley will fulfil her role as captain, as I’ve seen her mature and grow as a person and cricketer.”
The MCC has called for taking measures to speed up play while analyzing teams consistently failing to bowl 90 overs in a day these days, MCC has expressed its concern. However, the MCC has come up with a few recommendations for the ICC going ahead.
- In general, ICC playing regulations be reviewed to tighten the parameters around when substitutes are permitted onto the field of play i.e. with gloves, drinks etc.
- More specifically, when a Not Out decision is reviewed by the fielding side (or when an umpire review is made with a Not Out soft signal), the fielding team should immediately return to their positions, ready to bowl the next delivery. Batters should also remain in proximity and prepare to recommence play. No drinks should be brought onto the field. If the decision is overturned to Out, the fielding side will still have time to celebrate.
- A review of DRS protocols. During DRS reviews, the standard protocol should be cut short as soon as the TV production team is aware that it will be Not Out. For example, time is often spent trying to discern an inside edge for LBWs, only to see that the ball was missing the stumps. As soon as the ball tracking has been loaded, if it will result in a Not Out decision, the TV umpire should be informed immediately.
- Drink intervals should be taken immediately if a wicket falls or a DRS review is made within 15 minutes of their scheduled time and not re-taken at the top of the hour, or the next scheduled break.
- Players should be encouraged to play “ready cricket” at all times, which would include the bowler and fielders being in position when a new batter arrives at the crease.
- Umpires and match referees are to be more proactive at speeding up play and enforcing Laws 41.9 and 41.10, which provide a warning for the first offence, followed by the award of Penalty runs for deliberate slow play. Committee members felt that ‘in-game’ penalties, in combination with existing sanctions, will assist with the speeding up of play.
Warwickshire has signed the Indian all-rounder Jayant Yadav for their final three games of the County Championship.
“This will be my first County Championship experience and I’m incredibly excited to join up with the squad for the final three games,”
said Jayant.
“When I was asked if I would like to join Warwickshire it was something I couldn’t say no to. Having played my sixth Test earlier this year, I believe these three games will help me improve my game for more opportunities soon.
“I have never played at Edgbaston, but I have heard great things about the stadium and it will be a privilege to call it my home. I would like to extend my gratitude to both Warwickshire County Cricket Club and BCCI for helping to make this happen and I look forward to arriving next week,”
he added.
Paul Farbrace, Warwickshire’s Director of Cricket added:
“Jayant is another fantastic addition to the squad, and we’re excited to welcome him to Warwickshire. Jayant has played Test cricket this year and adding his First-Class experience to our bowling attack could be vital in the final three games.
“It was vitally important that we strengthened our bowling line-up for the run-in and the signing of Jayant, plus Siraj gives us an enviable array of options.”
India star batter Shubman Gill will appear for Glamorgan in the final four matches for the season that will begin on September 5.
“I’m looking forward to joining up with the Glamorgan squad as they push for promotion,”
Gill said.
“I have always enjoyed playing here and I’m excited to experience County Cricket and the challenges it brings. I would like to thank Glamorgan and BCCI for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started for Glamorgan and test myself during a crucial part of the season.”
Mark Wallace, Director of Cricket, said:
“Shubman is a fantastic addition to the squad as we enter the back end of the County Championship. He is one of the most exciting young batters in the world and already has experience of batting in these conditions during his time with India. With Colin and Marnus away, we needed to strengthen the top-order during and with his international pedigree, Shubman is the ideal cover.”
