Pakistan right-arm young pacer Naseem Shah has been named for Pakistan’s 16-member ODI squad for the Netherlands series as well as the 15-member T20I squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, replacing the out-of-form Hasan Ali.

Naseem Shah has played 13 Tests for Pakistan, and he will be joined by Salman Agha in the ODI series, which will shape a piece of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

Pakistan has also picked up the star pacer Shaheen Afridi in both squads but expressed his recovery program will be regulated by the team trainer and physiotherapist, who will settle on his comeback to international cricket.

Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris, Salman Ali Agha, and Zahid Mehmood, who have been added to the ODI squad, will clear a path for Asif Ali, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Usman Qadir in the Asia Cup.

Speaking on the team selection, chief selector Mohammad Wasim said,

“We have only made necessary changes. Both the competitions are important for us and, as such, we have picked our best available players in consultation with the captain and head coach.

“Hasan has been given a break from international cricket and he has been replaced by Naseem Shah. He is express fast and can give further impetus to the fast bowling department, which already boasts Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Shahnawaz Dahani. Naseem has not played any international white-ball cricket, but he has demonstrated with the red-ball that he is an attacking option with a good pace and controlled swing.

“Salman Ali Agha has been recalled to the ODI side after he performed well in the past two Pakistan Cup tournaments, averaging 40.33 and 48.8, respectively. He also gives Babar Azam an additional bowling option.”

The teams will leave for Amsterdam on August 12, while the players named for only the T20I squad will go along with them in Dubai on August 22.
