Omkar Salvi is named as the head coach of Mumbai for the upcoming domestic campaign
Omkar Salvi was hired on Monday as the head coach of the domestic Mumbai senior men’s team for the upcoming season. Omkar Salvi is currently the assistant bowling coach of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Onkar Gurav, a former wicket keeper-batter for Mumbai, has been designated the team’s fielding coach, and former Mumbai batter Vinit Indulkar has been chosen the batting coach.
The Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC), which is led by former India batter Lalchand Rajput and also includes Sahil Kukreja and Preeti Dimri, selected the selections.
Salvi took over as manager of the 41-time Ranji Trophy winners in place of Amol Muzumdar. Before joining KKR, Salvi served as the bowling coach for the Mumbai team. He is Aavishkar Salvi’s brother, a former Indian bowler.
Among other appointments, Dinesh Lad, the coach of current India captain Rohit Sharma, was chosen the head coach of the Under-19 team. Rajesh Pawar was selected the head coach of the Under-23 men’s team.
The Under-16 boys team will be led by Sandesh Kawle, and the Under-14 boys team will be led by Nilesh Masurkar.
Sunetra Paranjpe, a former player for India’s women’s cricket team who participated in three Test matches and 28 ODIs, has been named the squad’s senior head coach.
The Under-23 coach will be Jayesh Dadarkar, and the Under-19 and Under-15 girls’ teams’ respective head coaches will be Ajay Kadam and Aparna Kambli.
“Onkar has been the assistant bowling coach for many seasons. He is well versed with modern-day technology. Working with international players he knows how to handle the players as well, so we thought he is the best person to take Mumbai cricket forward. He was the Mumbai bowling coach earlier, and knows the Mumbai set-up and the players,”
Rajput said.
Along with Sameer Dighe’s appointment as the MCA Academy’s in-charge, Vinayak Mane and Pradeep Sunderam and Mandar Sane were chosen as the team’s batting and bowling coaches, respectively. The fielding coach was named Sunil Lingayat.
Another candidate for the role, Sameer Dighe, also put his name up. Sportstar, however, reports that Dighe has been chosen to lead the MCA’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy at the Bandra-Kurla Complex. As the head coach of the U-19 team, Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma’s coach, has also been named.
