Former PCB chairman disappointed with the board’s structure

Former PCB chairman Khalid Mehmood was disappointed with the board’s structure and said that leading the cricketing board has become a political reward while he further added that PCB’s interests need to be protected at all times.

Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Khalid Mehmood was disappointed with the board’s structure and said that leading the cricketing board has become a political reward.

“If a candidate has been selected then his term should be completed before any decision can be made regarding their future. It has been only seven months and to form an opinion regarding Ramiz Raja’s progress so early on is not wise,”

said Khalid.

While talking to express, Khalid showed his disappointment and said that PCB’s interests need to be protected at all times.

“It is sad to see whatever is happening. There is no assessment of the risks these hasty decisions can have but we continue to stick to our outdated model,”

Khalid Mehmood added.

Recalling his period as the PCB chairman, Khalid said that there are many examples of how these decisions can be counterproductive and their impact can carry into the future as well.

“In my time, the Pakistan cricket team was performing extremely well. We even made it to the final of the World Cup but despite the progress, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman was appointed. Although he did not retain the position for long – the winning pattern was broken and Pakistan subsequently got knocked out in the First Round of the next World Cup,”

he explained.

Khalid Mehmood termed the position of PCB chairman as “a political bribe.”

“Since the decision lies with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, there were some people appointed as PCB chairman who was not related to cricket and they could not have possibly carried out the job properly,”

Khalid Mehmood slammed PCB for maintaining old norms.

He further highlighted that disrupting the flow of the entire cricketing board time after time also does not send a good message on the international stage.

According to details, the newly-formed government is planning to send the Ramiz Raja home. Some people close to Newly-appointed Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif want the role of chairman but still, the government is avoiding it.

The former PM Imran Khan, who introduced the Ramiz Raja, said that he is free to make a decision regarding PCB chairmanship.

While the Former PM Khan interviewed the reporters at his residence on Monday, said that Ramiz is his player and will fight for the last ball.

“Ramiz is free to make a decision regarding PCB chairmanship. He will decide his future himself,”

the former premier shared.

“Ramiz is my player and he will compete against the opposition till last,”

he added.
