Chennai Super Kings lost their attack bowler Deepak Chahar after he suffered a back injury

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings were dealt a major blow after their ace, fast bowler, Deepak Chahar has been officially ruled out from IPL 2022 following an injury setback at the National Cricket Academy.

The 29-year-old picked up a back injury while getting rehabilitation from a quadricep injury sustained during the third T20I against West Indies in February.

“Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 owing to a back injury,”

stated an official IPL release.

After this news, the defending champions Chennai Super Kings were dealt a major blow after their ace, fast bowler, Deepak Chahar has been officially ruled out from IPL 2022 following an injury setback at the National Cricket Academy.

Chahar was an integral part of CSK’s fourth championship title campaign victory last year, claiming 14 wickets from 15 games at the economy rate of 8.35. His main role as a bowler was to give a breakthrough and get things under control within PowerPlay.

He forced the franchise to get across the line at the auction ahead of the season and CSK eventually signed their player for INR 14 crore, sealing the deal from the other three franchises.

Chahar got the injury after the auction process and ultimately missed the series against Sri Lanka while setting a rehabilitation camp at the National Cricket Academy. There was news coming that the right-arm pacer will be back in action for CSK at the end of April but the setback overwhelmed all those hopes.

Under Chahar’s absence, CSK lost each of their first four games of the season – the first-ever for the franchise. They were placed at the bottom of the IPL points table before their fifth game against Royal Challengers Bangalore which they finally managed to win.

The franchise will be allowed to make an injury replacement, a decision which they are yet to make.

Patrick Farhart tests COVID positive

An IPL media release on Friday (April 15), while confirming Chahar’s unavailability for IPL 2022, also mentioned that the Delhi Capitals physio has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Delhi Capitals physio Patrick Farhart has been tested positive for COVID-19. He is being closely monitored by the DC Medical Team at the moment,”

stated the release.

Rasikh Salam replaced by Harshit Rana

Kolkata Knight Riders will be without the services of Rasikh Salam as he has been ruled out of the IPL due to a lower back injury. Delhi fast bowler Harshit Rana has been signed as Salam’s replacement, at his base price of INR. 20 Lakh.
