Barcelona confirmed their second spot in the La Liga 2021-22 season by playing a goalless draw against Getafe. They are now five points clear of third-placed Atletico Madrid, who dropped two points to Sevilla as their encounter ended in a 1-1 draw. Champions Real Madrid, too, returned home with just a point as the final scoreline read 1-1 against Cadiz.

Espanyol 1-1 Valencia

Maxi Gomez latched on to a low cross from Thierry Correia to break the deadlock for Valencia in the 37th minute before Espanyol equalised through Raul de Tomas at the stroke of half-time. With the draw, Espanyol found themselves in the 13th spot while Valencia occupied two positions above them by the end of Matchday 37.

Villarreal 1-2 Real Sociedad

Francis Coquelin erupted the home fans in joy with an acrobatic volley at the far post from a corner-kick as Villarreal went one goal up just two minutes before half-time. With pressure mounting on Real Sociedad to equalise, Alexander Isak stood up to the occasion by tapping the ball into the empty net after finding himself at the end of an Andoni Gorosabel crossfield pass in the 56th minute.

Martin Zubimendi capitalised on a mistimed clearance to put Sociedad ahead in the 73rd minute as the final scoreline read 2-1 in favour of them.

Celta Vigo 1-0 Elche

With Elche players slacking themselves by complaining about a penalty, Nestor Araujo carried the ball from one end to another to set up Iago Aspas for the assist as Denis Suarez smothered the ball into the net to score the only goal of the game for Celta Vigo in the 9th minute.

Cadiz 1-1 Real Madrid

Rodrygo cut through four defenders from the left flank to set up Mariano Diaz from a hand-shaking distance, who completed a simple tap-in to give Real Madrid an early lead in the contest. Cadiz equalised through Ruben Sobrino in the 37th minute as his shot hit the crossbar before trickling into the net.

Alvaro Negredo could have given the home side the lead in the 62nd minute but he made a meal out of his penalty as the final scoreline read 1-1. Cadiz is level on points with Mallorca but a spot below them due to their inferior head to head record as they stand 18th on the table with one game to spare.

Athletic Club 2-0 Osasuna

Athletic Club took the lead through Alex Berenguer in the 33rd minute after he towered above his marker to glance his header off a corner kick. Asier Villalibre doubled the home side’s lead in the 79th minute after finding himself unmarked in the box to slot home the ball past the ‘keeper.

Levante 3-1 Alaves

Joselu Mato pierced the ball through the legs of the ‘keeper as Alaves took the lead in the 36th minute. However, the lead lasted only eight minutes into the second half as Oscar Duerte thumped his header into the net off a corner-kick.

Roger Marti powered his shot through a host of legs to give the home side the lead in the 74th minute before Jose Luis Morales scored the insurance goal at the dying embers of the game to seal the tie for Levante.

Alaves knew they had to come up with at least a point but their failure to do so meant they would now be relegated alongside Levante to the Segunda Division.

Atletico Madrid 1-1 Sevilla

Atletico Madrid took the lead in the 30th minute as Jose Maria Gimenez got away from his marker to head home a corner-kick before the visitors equalised in the 85th minute through Youssef En-Neysri.

The Moroccan nodded in Oliver Torres’ cross after Atletico Madrid failed to clear a corner-kick as Sevilla secured UEFA Champions League qualification for the next season.

Mallorca 2-1 Rayo Vallecano

Vedat Muriqi scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute after peeling away his marker to head home a cross from the left flank to give Mallorca the lead. Pathe Ciss made a run through the centre from a corner-kick and angled his header straight into the roof of the net to bring back Rayo Vallecano in the contest in the 60th minute.

Abdon Prats scored Mallorca’s winning goal in the dying embers of the game after slotting the ball into the bottom corner off a cross from a corner-kick. The home fans erupted in joy as the victory provided a significant boost to their ambitions of staying in the La Liga for the next season.

Getafe confirmed their La Liga status for the next season by playing a goalless draw against Barcelona at home. Both the ‘keepers weren’t tested much as Barcelona had only one shot on target while Getafe had three.

Real Betis 2-0 Granada

Juanmi Jimenez broke the deadlock for Real Betis in the 14th minute after chipping the ball through the head of the ‘keeper before completing his brace by beating the offside trap and slamming the ball into the net two minutes before the full-time whistle.
