Australia rest injured Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh from India tour 

Taking a cautious approach ahead of the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 which they will be hosting in mid October, Australia have pulled out Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc and Marcus Stoinis from their upcoming tour of India citing low-level injuries and have named replacements for these cricketers.

All these three cricketers carry important roles in Australia’s limited-overs’ squad and had played a crucial role in their victorious campaign in the last T20 World Cup which was held in the UAE last year. 

When Mitchell Marsh remains a crucial batsmen in the top order for both Australia and his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals, all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Starc will be valued for their experience in the format and the current form that they have shown with the white ball.

Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the last two ODIs versus Zimbabwe due to an ankle related issue while Marcus Stoinis ended up picking a side injury during the recently concluded home series against New Zealand. Added to the list on Wednesday was fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who is said to have injured his knee. 

Australia have called up Nathan Ellis, Daniel Sams and Sean Abbott for the three-match T20I series against India starting on September 20. 

It has been reported by ESPNcricinfo that Mitchell Marsh was expected to be a part of the squad for India tour, but since the amount of travel that will be required during the trip, it was better that he stayed home and remained concentrated on his preparations and rest for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The same was considered as a big factor while deciding on the other two players. 

Cricket Australia said in a statement, ”Selectors felt that with three games in six days across three cities – including travel to India and internally – Marsh, Stoinis and Starc are best served remaining in Australia to prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”

Australia’s tour of India 2022 will be a short one consisting of three T20 internationals to be played on September 20 in Mohali, September 23 in Nagpur and on September 25 in Hyderabad.

While star batsmen and experienced campaigner in Indian conditions David Warner will be missing the tour as well, Australia have picked their young all-rounder Cameron Green for the trip in which Aaron Finch will continue to be the captain having recently retired from one-day internationals.
