Abid Ali, the Pakistan opening batter complained of chest discomfort in a midway of a domestic match and was immediately taken to the hospital on Tuesday (December 21).

Abid Ali, the Pakistan opening Test cricketer complained of chest discomfort in a midway of a domestic match and was immediately taken to the hospital on Tuesday (December 21).

Abid was playing his innings for Central Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Karachi and was batting on 61 not out when he left the field following chest pain which came out as “acute coronary syndrome”.

According to a PCB statement,

“Abid was taken immediately to a cardiac hospital where he was diagnosed as a case of Acute Coronary Syndrome. He is under the care of a Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with the PCB medical team regarding further treatment. He is currently stable.”

The 34-year-old Abid was recently named as the Player of the Series in Pakistan’s 2-0 victory against Bangladesh, after scoring 263 runs at an average of 87.66. 

Abid has played 16 Tests since his debut in 2019, scoring 1180 runs at 49.16 with four centuries, including a highest of 215 not out against Zimbabwe.

“He is under the care of Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with PCB medical team regarding further treatment. He is currently stable. It is requested to respect his and the family’s privacy at this time. More details will be provided in due course,”

concluded the statement from the PCB.

The 34-year-old has requested his fans and well-wishers to pray for his early recovery after he suffered pain in his chest during a match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

The 34-year-old was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and a stent has been placed in Abid’s blocked coronary artery in an angioplasty surgery.

“I am thankful to God as I faring well. I request all of you to pray for me as I have a small medical procedure tomorrow. So I request all my family members, fans, and all my well-wishers to pray for me,”

said Abid Ali in a video message.
