Tokyo Olympics 2020 U-23 Football: Brazil vs Germany. Prediction and Preview. Probable Lineups, Team News, Stats and more
The first Olympic match between Brazil and Germany will take place on Thursday 22 July in Yokohama. It starts at 17:00 IST.
Of course, football at the Olympics is a quite unusual notion. It is not youth football, but it does not reach the level of adult teams as well. So it is more interesting to watch and follow such starts – they can burn new stars and reveal us talents to follow.
The teams encountered each other in the final of the last Olympics 2016, when the Yellow and Green won on penalties. Back then, Neymar scored the final decisive shot. Will the Germans be able to take revenge?
Brazil U23 News & Current Form:
The Brazilian national team is the reigning Olympic champion in men’s football. Five years ago, Rio de Janeiro saw Neymar, Marquinhos, Felipe Andreson, Gabi Jesus and a number of other great players play for the Yellow and Green, reaching the final and beating Germany on penalties to win the first Olympic gold medals in Brazilian football history.
Andre Jardinet’s side had three friendlies before defending the title, in which they unexpectedly lost to Cape Verde 1-2, before beating Serbia and the UAE 3-0 and 5-2 respectively.
Germany U23 News & Current Form:
Germany are great football magnates, however, they have never achieved a gold medal at the Olympics in history.
The only time they reached the podium was five years ago, when Lukas Klostermann, Niklas Sule, Julian Brandt, Serge Gnabry and other stars of the modern era reached the final, but lost there to the hosts Brazilians. Interestingly, the Germans have started that tournament with two draws against Mexico and South Korea – 2:2 and 3:3, respectively. But then on their way to the final they defeated Fiji, Portugal and Nigeria with a total score of 16:0.
The German national team will now be taken to the Olympics by Stephan Kunz, who will try to win the gold medal.
Brazil U23 vs Germany U23 Head-To-Head Record:
There have been four head-to-head games in Olympic history. In 1952, the German team won 4-2. In 1984, Brazil were the stronger team, 1-0. In 1988 and 2016 matches ended in a draw (1-1), but both times in the penalty shoot-out the Yellow and Green proved to be better.

Brazil U23 vs Germany U23 Prediction:
Historically, both teams play attacking football, and there are players here who can score. Stars like Richarlison, Matheus Cunha and Malcom pose a serious threat to the Germans, who may not have such big names in their squad, but still many players play in the Bundesliga, where it is ‘illegal’ to play defensively.
It is unclear what form the teams are in, but we know for sure that they have nothing to lose at the start of the tournament. The young talents will try to show themselves – the game must be bright and open.
