Basil Thampi is an Indian cricketer who represents Kerala in domestic cricket and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He is a right-handed batsman. He bowls in the style of a right-handed middle-arm paceman. He debuted in the IPL for the Gujarat Lions in India Premier League 2017 and was named the Emerging Player of the Season.

Thampi was born on September 11, 1993 in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. Tampi bowls at over 140 kilometers per hour and is known among Yorkers who bowl regularly. Kerala’s former Indian bowler and fast bowling coach Tinu Yohannan described Tampi as “athletic” and “pretty strong”.

Tampi made his Kerala debut in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy in 2015. In 2017, he was bought by the Gujarat Lions team to play in the 2017 Indian Premier League (IPL). In the same year, Tampi won the Beginning Player Award. Tampi was a pure bowler for the Indian team during the 4-match Test series against Australia in February-March 2017.

In November 2017, he was named to the India Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the series against Sri Lanka but did not play.In 2018, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL auction.

In July 2018, he was named in Team India Blue for the 2018-19 Dupe Cup and in August 2019, he was named in Team India Blue for the 2019-20 Dupe Cup.
