Bakary Kone started his professional career with hometown club Etoile Filante’s youth team in 2004. He was rewarded with a move to France where he joined Guingamp in Ligue 2 and won the Coupe de France in 2009, before joining Olympique Lyon in 2011. During his five years at the club from 2011-16, the Les Gones were Champions of the Coupe de France in 2011-12 and winners of the Trophee Des Champions in 2012. The resilient defender was a key figure for Olympique Lyon as they went on to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. From Lyon, he moved to Malaga where he had a brief stint in La Liga before moving back to Ligue 1 with Strasbourg on loan. Kone moved to Turkey for the 2018-29 season and then Russia before his move to the Hero ISL to join Kerala Blasters FC.
