India’s Sports Minister Addressed the Second Annual General Meeting

During the second annual general meeting organized by Sportscom, the Indian Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, addressed the members and assured that ministries are making efforts to resume the sports activities by October and finding constructive solutions by discussing the issues with the respective ministries.

Sportscom organized a special webinar session, many big names in the sports industry, including the Sports minister,

Vivek Singh (Joint MD of Procam International), Udit Sheth (Founder and Managing Director of SE TransStadia), and Neeraj Jain attended the session. Pullela Gopichand, Ashwini Nachappa, Monalisa Barua Mehta, and Viren Rasquinha were some former athletes and experts who joined the session. Kiren Rijiju and Vivek Singh put forward some valuable suggestions to resume India’s sports activities; Sportscom also submitted some proposals.

Vivek Singh addressed some key challenges like the quarantine rules, promoter’s liability, and unavailability of events cancellation insurance that needs to be taken care of to bring back sports competitions. Singh also discussed the change in scenario due to Covid-19; he said that India’s live sports event sector’s revenue touched Rs.9,000 crores in 2019. It could’ve touched Rs.10,000 crores in the absence of Covid-19, but now it will not be the case, and the board has to suffer a revenue loss of about Rs.4,000 crores.

In the webinar organized by Sportscom, Kiren Rijiju assured that the ministries are working hard to resume the sports activities. He said no competitions are happening as of now, but hopefully, a vaccine will be coming out soon, and by next year, India will witness exciting field events.
