PKL 9 Match Day 16 Roundup: Haryana Steelers thrash Telugu Titans to grab their third victory
It was just another day of entertainment at the Pro Kabaddi League, with Puneri Paltan beating the table-toppers Jaipur Pink Panthers by a margin of 8 points, whereas Haryana Steelers grabbed their third victory of the season after defeating the under-pressure Telugu Titans 43-24.
Let’s take a quick glance at the Day 16 Roundups of the esteemed PKL Season 9:
Match 34: Jaipur Pink Panthers 24-32 Puneri Paltan
The Jaipur Pink Panthers, who were at the top of the table, have now moved to the second spot after the loss against Puneri Paltan on Tuesday. Rahul Chaudhari and Arjun Deshwal started off really well for the Panthers, but the duo couldn’t continue the lead for a long time. Puneri Paltan’s Aslam Inamdar was the showstopper of the day as he scored a brilliant Super 10 for his side.
Just when the Panthers were going away with the game, Inamdar scored a couple of raid points to bring the momentum back to Paltan. Following his magnificent performance, skipper Fazel Atrachali also contributed with an impressive tackle point.
During the initial first half, neither team was letting the other team take a lead. It was Mohit Goyat’s successive raid points that took Puneri way ahead in the match. At the end of the first half, the scores were 17-11 in favour of Puneri Paltan.
The Pune-based franchise continued its momentum in the second half as well, with Mohit Goyat raiding exceptionally well. Overall, he scored 6 raid points, but all of them came at a crucial stage.
On Jaipur Pink Panthers’ front, only Arjun Deshwal was trying his level best to bring his team back on track. The last 8 minutes of the match brought more excitement when Mohammad Nabibakhsh tackled Rahul Chaudhari. At that point, Fazel Atrachali’s men were in a lead of 8 points with the last four minutes left. Some brilliant raiding helped Puneri Paltan storm into the top four in the table. The final scores were 32-24 in favour of Fazel Atrachali & Co.
The Panthers will play their next game against Tamil Thalaivas on Friday and Puneri Paltan will compete against Haryana Steelers on the same day.
Match 35: Haryana Steelers 43-24 Telugu Titans
Both sides were looking for a victory in this game after some losses in the past, and Haryana grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The encounter was extremely important for the Telugu Titans because they are at the bottom of the table. However, the Steelers did not let them come back even for a minute.
The Titans started off well with Monu Goyat and Vinay scoring points initially, but soon some exceptional raiding from Meetu Sharma and Manjeet left behind the Titans by a huge margin. At one point, the scores were 17-8, with none of the players working for the Telugu Titans at that time. With a 13-point lead in the first half, the game was pretty much clear for the Haryana Steelers.
Credit should go to the defenders of Haryana, as Nitin Rawal, Amirhossein Bastami, Jaipdeep Dahiya, and Mohit Nadal all did a brilliant job for their team. The second half was completely one-sided, with just formalities going on. The Steelers took a massive lead of 19 points towards the end of the game. The encounter culminated with a 43-24 in favour of the Haryana Steelers.
It was a sixth defeat for the Telugu Titans, which means only a miracle from here can take them to the playoffs. They need to come back stronger than anyone in order to keep themselves alive in the contest.
On the other hand, Manpreet Singh’s Haryana Steelers are in the sixth spot with three wins out of seven matches. Their next battle will be against Puneri Paltan on Friday, whereas the Telugu Titans will compete against the Gujarat Giants on Saturday.
