Matchday 17 Preview and Prediction
After a break for one day in PKL Season 9, the back-and-forth kabaddi action restarts with Gujarat Giants taking on U Mumba at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. It will be followed by a match between Dabang Delhi and Bengal Warriors.
Gujarat Giants occupy the fourth position in the points table with 19 points from 6 matches. They have a negative point difference but are at a sniffing distance from the teams in the top three. U Mumba sit in the eighth spot with 16 points from six matches They, too, have three wins like Gujarat but have lost the remaining three matches while their opponents have one draw to their name.
Dabang Delhi occupies the second spot in the table with five wins from six matches and has 26 points to their table. Bengal Warriors, on the other hand, sit in the seventh spot with 16 points from six matches. Three wins and three losses put them in a balanced spot in the first half of the tournament.
Match 38: Gujarat Giants vs U Mumba
Gujarat Giants are on a roll, winning their last two matches with ease. They decimated UP Yoddha 51-45 while pipping Haryana Steelers 42-38 in their next encounter. Rakesh Sungroya and Chandran Ranjit are the two main men upfront in the raiding department.
Defensively, they have the likes of Sourav Gulia, Shankar Gadai, and Arkam Shaikh entrusted with picking tackle points. The other players do help them with assists as and when required.
U Mumba, on the other hand, suffered a 10-point defeat to Bengaluru Bulls in their previous encounter with the full-time scoreline reading 32-42. They beat Haryana Steelers 32-31 in the fixture before that while also getting the better of Tamil Thalaivas and UP Yoddha while losing the Maharashtra Derby to Puneri Paltan.
U Mumba is one of the few teams this season, whose strength lies in defense. Harendra Kumar and Surinder Singh usually go for the tackles while others back them up with assists. While raiding, Guman Singh and Jai Bhagwan are entrusted to bag points but it remains to be seen how they fare against Gujaraat’s defensive unit.
The match promises to be a close one but U Mumba has a stronger defense than Gujarat Giants. With raiding not the strong point of both teams, we expect the Mumbai-based outfit to come out on top.
Predicted Starting Seven
Gujarat Giants: Chandran Ranjit (C), Sourav Gulia, Rakesh HS, Shankar Gadai, Rinku Narwal, Arkam Shaikh, Prashanth Kumar Rai
U Mumba: Harendra Kumar, Rahul Sethpl, Guman Singh, Ashish, Mohit, Jai Bhagwan, Surender Singh (C)
Match 39: Dabang Delhi vs Bengal Warriors
Dabang Delhi endured their first loss of the season to Patna Pirates in their previous encounter as their five-game winning streak came to an end. Like every other season, Delhi’s strength lies in their raiding department.
Naveen Kumar continued from where he left off with his wily hand touches but this time Manjeet and Ashu Malik helped him catch his breath by picking up points when called into action.
Bengal Warriors, on the other hand, are a shadow of their past which clinched the PKL 7 title. Two back-to-back losses have detailed their momentum but as long as they have Maninder Singh with them, the opponents need to be wary of them.
It is the defense where they lack behind the rest of the teams in the league. Girish Ernak and co will need to pull up their socks and it remains to be seen how they fare against Naveen Kumar in the crunch encounter.
Predicted Starting Seven
Dabang Delhi: Ravi Kumar, Vishal, Naveen Kumar (C), Manjeet, Ashu Malik, Krishan, Vijay
Bengal Warriors: Maninder Singh (C), Shrikant Jadhav, Vaibhav Garje, Girish Maruti Ernak, Deepak Niwas Hooda, Shubham Shinde, Balaji D
