Matchday 15 Preview and Prediction
The high-octane back-and-forth Kabaddi action in Week 3 of PKL 9 will be capped off by a double-header at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Bengaluru Bulls will kickstart the evening with an encounter against bottom-placed Patna Pirates. While the former will be eager to build on the momentum gained early in the season, Patna will be hoping to get their first win under the belt.
Capping off the week will be UP Yoddhas and Tamil Thalaivas squaring off in a clash at the lower half of the table. Both have only three losses to their name but the Yoddhas have 13 points while the Thalaivas have 10 points from just five games.
Match 36: Bengaluru Bulls vs Patna Pirates
Bengaluru Bulls have had a mixed campaign so far – winning the first two games, losing the next two, and then winning the next one. They would have already squared off against U Mumba before locking horns with the Pirates in the week.
Not a single day of rest between the two matches can take a toll on the Bulls players. So far, it has been only Bharat and Vikash Khandola winning the raid points but the bench needs to step up in the encounter against Patna.
Defensively, the trio of Saurabh Nandal, Mahender Singh, and Aman have picked up tackle points but they are yet to prove their mettle against the heavyweights of PKL 9.
The Pirates are yet to bag a win and it looks like the case will be no different against the Bulls. Patna will also have no days to recover after their clash against table toppers Dabang Delhi and fatigue can get the better of them.
One of the reasons for the laggard performance of the Pirates this season has been their faltering defense, on the back of whom the franchise reached the finals last time.
The opposition raiders have done their homework against the Patna defense by not attacking the left corner where Mohammadreza Shadloui takes guard. Conceding points from the other end, Patna has been inflicted ‘All Out’ a total of nine times.
Patna’s problems don’t seem to come to an end while Bengaluru is going strong with full force. Hence, we predict Bengaluru to come out on top and Patna’s losing streak to continue.
Predicted Starting Seven
Patna Pirates: Sachin Tanwar, Rohit Gulia, Neeraj Kumar (C), Sunil, C Sajin, Abdul Insamam, Mohammadreza Chiyaneh
Bengaluru Bulls: Neeraj Narwal, Mahender Singh (C), Bharat, Aman, Mayur Kadam, Saurabh Nandal, Vikash Kandola
Match 37: UP Yoddhas vs Tamil Thalaivas
UP Yoddhas have steamrolled past their opponents courtesy of the form of raiders Surender Gill and Pardeep Narwal. While the former has three Super 10s to his name, the latter has two from five matches.
However, they have been let down by their defenders. This was evident in their match against Gujarat Giants when their defenders picked up only three tackle points while the raiders amassed 33.
The Yoddhas have just 43 tackle points from 5 matches and will need to buckle up their socks in the department. Tamil Thalaivas are heading into the tournament on the back of a 17-point defeat against Bengaluru Bulls.
However, apart from the blip, they have performed nicely in the tournament with other losses coming by narrow margins. Himanshu and Narendar Hoshiyar are the lynchpins in the raiding department with the likes of Sahil Singh, Himanshu, and Sagar providing solidity in defense.
The contest promises to be an even one but the Yoddhas have a slight advantage courtesy of their raiding unit. Hence, we predict UP to win the tie.
Predicted Starting Seven
UP Yoddha: Sumit, Ashu Singh, Surender Gill, Rohit Tomar, Nitesh Kumar (C), Shubham Kumar, Pardeep Narwal
Tamil Thalaivas: M. Abishek, Sagar (C), Sahil Singh, Visvanath V, Narender, Ashish-II, Himanshu, Virender Singh
