The London derby within the 1/8 finals of the English League Cup is scheduled to take place at the London Stadium. Will the rivals please the public with goals?

West Ham United FC will host Arsenal FC in the English Football League Cup 4th round match at the London Stadium. The fixture will take place on Thursday, November 2, beginning at 01:00 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

West Ham News & Current Form:

In the opening round of the League Cup, West Ham had to work hard to get a 0:1 victory over Lincoln City FC from the third strongest division League One thanks to a goal by Tomas Soucek 20 minutes before the end of the game. Before that, the team had not won in three consecutive matches (2 draws and 1 loss) in regular time in the English League Cup.

Unfortunately for the fans of the capital club, after a good start wards of David Moyes for some time can not achieve success in the Premier League, as evidenced by their only victory (over the team from the bottom of the table) in the last 6 games with 1 draw and 4 defeats. The team has 14 points in 10 games played and is on the ninth line in the table, eight points behind the European Cup zone.

Last weekend West Ham unexpectedly lost at home to crisis Everton FC with a score of 0:1, all decided by the goal of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Moreover, the failure was the first time in 2023 when the team failed to distinguish itself in the home walls. To date, the team has a series of defeats in three matches in all tournaments, while the winless streak stretches to four matches, so the hosts have a small chance of even a draw.

After the defeat in the last match, the head coach admitted that he was outplayed tactically. Moyes said that the opponent blocked the opportunity to actively use the flanks, and through the center to pass the rich defense of the Toffees failed.

It should be noted that the coaching staff of West Ham is not sitting idly by, but looking for ways out of the crisis. One of the important decisions of Moyes was the appearance of Mohammed Kudus in the starting lineup in the last match. Acquired in the summer for big money from AFC Ajax, however he has not played much in the EPL so far.

Mohammed Kudus – recently acquired player to West Ham United

The former Ajax player was extremely motivated and had a chance to score, but failed to realize an advantageous goal. It is very likely that the management is not happy with the situation and is looking for players to strengthen the squad. It is reported that the club is interested in Juventus FC midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

Kudus will be supported in attack by Said Benrahma and Danny Ings. Although Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta received yellow cards in the match against Everton, their suspensions will be transferred to Saturday’s English Premier League round, which means both will be able to take the field on Wednesday. Lukasz Fabianski will finally replace Alphonse Areola in goal as the Pole has finally recovered from his injury.

West Ham also take part in the European Cup, but unlike the future rival, they do not have a goal to take the championship in the current EPL season. The decline in the game of Londoners is alarming. They can not win in the last 4 matches in all tournaments and conceded 9 goals in this stretch. David Moyes’ team’s defense is one of its biggest problems (xGA = 1.91).

Last week West Ham suffered a fiasco in the 3rd round of the group stage of the UEFA Europa League from Olympiacos FC (1:2) away, so now its leadership in the quartet is under threat.

Arsenal News & Current Form:

Arsenal have already passed one stage of the English League Cup. In the 1/16 finals of the tournament Londoners beat a strong representative of the EPL Brentford FC thanks to an early goal by Reiss Nelson (1:0).

Interestingly, the Londoners have not lifted the League Cup over their heads since the 1992-93 season, so the team should have plenty of motivation. Of their last six fourth round matches, Arsenal have capitulated in only one – in 2019 they lost to Liverpool FC on penalties after an incredible 5:5 draw at Anfield.

The Gunners have made a good start to the English Championship season. The team has worked on their mistakes and is back on the leaderboard. Now Mikel Arteta’s wards are in second place, two points behind the leader Tottenham.

This makes the upcoming game against formidable Newcastle United FC one of the most important games of the week and will surely lead to a rotation with West Ham. It is worth noting that the Gunners score an average of 2 goals per away game.

Before the break for national team games, the club defeated Manchester City (1:0), then snatched a draw in the London derby with Chelsea FC (2:2) and defeated top division newcomer Sheffield United FC thanks to a hat-trick by Eddie Nketiah, with goals also scored by Fabio Vieira and Takehiro Tomiyasu (5:0). Arteta said he has a high level of confidence in Nketiah, who has played 14 games this season and scored five goals.

Arsenal are also doing well in the UEFA Champions League. Last week, the Londoners defeated Sevilla FC (2:1) away in the third round of the group stage, where they now lead their quartet. Before that there was a 2:1 defeat to French RC Lens and a 4:0 win over Eredivisie leaders PSV.

The club are still missing Dutch defender Jurrien Timber, key support player Thomas Partey and Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, all of whom are recovering in the infirmary from injuries. Mikel Arteta, as he did in the previous round of the League Cup, could bring in the closest reserves this Wednesday.

Attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe and winger Nelson will surely be in the starting lineup, as will the aforementioned Nketiah. Jorginho, Vieira, Nelson and Mohamed Elneny will also take their places in the starting lineup. Arteta should bring Aaron Ramsdale back into the lineup in place of David Raya, after the Englishman made several saves in the last Cup round against Brentford.

What has been said before the match:

Coach of the Hammers David Moyes about his team’s recent results and the changes awaiting them:

“We had some good results from some hard games, and we also made a good start in the Europa League too. Last week was a difficult one but we want to get back on track and move on from the bad results.”

“We can’t deny we had a bad week. But if you look at what we did in the eight weeks prior, we can be pretty pleased with what we had done. We had some good results from some hard games, and we also made a good start in the Europa League too. Last week was a difficult one but we want to get back on track and move on from the bad results.“

“Arsenal, over many years, have had some great teams. I’ve been fortunate – or perhaps unfortunate – to come up against them often in the Premier League and cup competitions. Arsenal have had great players over the years and it’s always been a tough task.”

“Last time against Arsenal, we came back from two goals down to draw with them. I know Mikel Arteta well and I want him to do well, but my job is to try to win, and get results, and we’ll try to do that again in this cup game.”

“I think we’re changing ourselves. We’re playing a more expansive and open game than we have before, which in some ways is good. We’re trying to look to open things up a bit more.”

“We’re trying to find a way of becoming a little bit more open and get some more attacks. The last couple of games, we’ve not made the chances, which is a surprise to me more than anything because that’s not been the way we’ve been working. That’s the bit we need to keep working on.”

The Gunners’ coach Mikel Arteta about the Carabao Cup is worth the dedication:

“I do. Even if you are doing rotation, the role of the players that are committed to challenging for this trophy or this game, I think it’s critical for them to show what they can do when they are really important and given the chance. When they are in or out, how are you going to approach the game and are you going to win the game for the team?”

“I think if you want to grow as a team and you don’t have that mindset, it is very difficult so the mindset of every three days and being able to do it in different ways and different contexts when you have a big game next week, or we just played in the Champions League or another big game here, it’s: ‘OK, what is the behavior of the team and how they respond to that.’ I think it’s very important.”

West Ham vs Arsenal Prediction:

Things are looking bleak for the Hammers after the international break: in the last two EPL rounds they suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Everton with a total score of 1:5, and in between they lost to Olympiakos in the Europa League (1-2). The Gunners, in contrast, are doing just fine: a solid 10-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League along with top spot in Group B. David Moyes’ men are unlikely to succeed in this derby, as the visitors are consistently averaging 2.3 goals per game, while boasting the second best defense in the league (0.8 goals conceded per 90 minutes).

However, the Hammers’ home advantage and Arsenal’s tight calendar will probably force Mikel Arteta to resort to rotation, as the English Football League Cup is hardly a priority for a team that has ambitions to go all the way in the UCL and win the Premier League. Nevertheless, the squad of North Londoners has enough quality and depth, so even under the above conditions, the guests look favorites. We expect them to progress to the next round.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Arsenal will win with an individual total of more than 1.5 – Yes.
