th
Both teams have yet to lose a single game in the current Premier League campaign. Whose coaching strategy will be more favorable: Jürgen Klopp or Ange Postecoglou?

Tottenham Hotspur FC will host Liverpool FC in the English Premier League 7th round match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, September 30, beginning at 22:00 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Tottenham Hotspur News & Current Form:

Tottenham can be called one of the main discoveries of the start of the English season. The team has not yet lost once in the current championship, as a result of which they are in fourth place in the EPL standings after six matches played, in which they have gained 14 points.

With a new coach, the Spurs look noticeably better than in the previous campaign, which at one point turned into a real torment for them. Under Ange Postecoglou, the Tottenham players finally remembered about normal football – the nightmarish style of Antonio Conte is a thing of the past. By the way, the Australian was voted the best coach in the top division last month.

Postecoglou has also proved himself to be at his best, managing to convince the team that they are capable of getting results even without the best player in the club’s history, Harry Kane.

Without Kane, the leadership role has completely shifted to Son Heung-Min, who has already netted five goals in six league games. Summer rookie James Maddison looks great as well – he’s shot 2+4 on goal+pass.

Top striker of Tottenham Hotspur FC – Son Heung-Min

Contrary to all the gloomy predictions, Tottenham are showing high-level football and are rightly in fourth place with a 15:7 goal difference. In the recent past, Spurs have been stronger than Manchester United FC (2:0), AFC Bournemouth (2:0), Burnley FC (5:2) and Sheffield United FC (2:1) and also drew with Arsenal FC. The London derby ended with a 2:2 scoreline.

For Postecoglou, the tasks for the season are also simplified by the fact that there are no European Cup matches on Tottenham’s schedule this season. On the other hand, Fulham FC simplified their calendar by knocking them out of the English League Cup a month ago, so they will be able to devote all their efforts to EPL games.

It is worth noting that the Spurs have problems in defense, as there is still no chemistry between central defenders Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. On average, the Londoners allow 1.45 xG in front of their goal per game. In comparison, Everton FC and Luton Town FC have similar figures. But the attack of Postecoglou’s team works productively, thanks to which Tottenham stays in the group of leaders.

Unfortunately, the team lost several players for a while due to injuries: Giovani Lo Celso, Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon and Brian Gil.

Liverpool News & Current Form:

The Reds have also had a very successful start to this Premier League campaign. Liverpool drew 1:1 with Chelsea FC in the first round of the league, then picked up five consecutive victories over Bournemouth (3:1), Newcastle United FC (2:1), Aston Villa FC (3:0), Wolverhampton Wanderers FC (3:1) and West Ham United FC (3:1).

Recent addition to Liverpool FC squad – Dominik Szoboszlai

Perhaps the key in this stretch was the camber in the away game against the team of Eddie Howe (1:2). Liverpool spent almost the whole match with ten men after the suspension of Virgil van Dijk, but still managed to score three points – after 80 minutes Darwin Nunez scored twice. Thus, charges of Jurgen Klopp are firmly in second position with 16 points and a 15:5 goals-against ratio.

Merseyside also started their UEFA Europa League campaign with a 3:1 victory over Austrian club LASK. Earlier in the week, the Merseysideiders’ with a half reserve squad won 3:1 at home against Leicester City FC in the English League Cup.

The Foxes opened the scoring in the first half but Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota had their say in the second half and pulled their club through to the next round where they will face Bournemouth.

As with Tottenham, Liverpool have a very quality attack, with Mohamed Salah (4+4), Diogo Jota (3+0) and Darwin Nunez (4+2) scoring the most. The defense is not perfect, but the deficiencies in its game are not noticeable due to the fact that the Reds are able to score at least three times in almost every game.

At the same time, the club continues to experience the same problems in defense as last season, but to a lesser extent. Nevertheless, this does not allow it to fully compete with Manchester City for the gold medals. The Reds allow an average of 1.2 xG per match, but make up for it with a classy attack (xG = 2.2).

The visitors have medical problems with Ibrahima Konate, Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

What has been said before the match:

Spurs’ recently appointed coach Ange Postecoglou after the North London derby game with Arsenal:

“I think in terms of the game we showed everything we are capable of. Arsenal are a good, top-class team. But I think we showed real courage and bravery by continuing to play our football. Our team is growing. In terms of the quality of football we are still at the very beginning, but I am impressed with the character we are showing.”

“It’s not about being happy with the result, for me it was about the performance. You can get a result here, a draw, and like I said before you can walk away knowing that ‘you know what, we escaped’, but I don’t have that feeling now. I think we went toe to toe with a top team and at times I thought we really asserted our dominance on the game. At times they did but that’s what happens when you face top sides.”

“Even if we had lost today, and I don’t like losing, but for me to keep pushing these guys, they need to feel that out there that what we talk about and work on, they can see it come to fruition and when it does against a top team, being brave with our approach, that’s the key thing. For me I’m pleased.”

Gaffer of the Reds Jurgen Klopp ahead of the Spurs clash:

“Tottenham is not in European football at all… Chelsea is not in European football… so two heavyweights are not in European football, and having the whole week to train when others travel, and stuff like this, not only us, all the others, so it’s a massive advantage, so getting into the Champions League will be a massive and a difficult task this year because of well-rested big animals.”

“I don’t know if it will be a marker but the performance is as important. It’s important to understand where we are. Yes, I would take each performance if it means three points to us, yeah, but it wouldn’t give me an indication of where we are in our development.”

“We show we can adapt, we show we learn in the game, we show we use half-time pretty well, but it’s not that our meeting before the game is useless and then at half-time finally we can find the right words. It’s not like that.”

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool Prediction:

The opponents approach the 7th matchday in the leading four – Liverpool are in 2nd place with 16 points, Tottenham are 4th (14 points). These сlubs have yet to lose a single match in the previous 6 rounds. Liverpool’s current start is the 2nd most successful in the EPL after the first 6 rounds. While their best stands at 6 consecutive wins from the start in the two seasons 2019/20 (GD: 17:5, +12) and 2018/19 (GD: 14:2, +12). For Tottenham, their current Premier League beginnings are absolutely their best start in the history of the Premiership. Given Spurs’ universally recognised ceiling – such a performance is akin to a Greek coach’s miracle.

The hosts have scored 15 goals (the 3rd in the league jointly with Liverpool). Conceded 7 which is 4th best in the league. With the same productivity, the guests showed themselves better in defensive play: conceded 5 which makes them the 2nd most solid backline after Man City (3). Moreover, Liverpool are unbeaten in the English Premier League since the 1st of April of this year, when they lost away to Man City 1:4. This series totals 17 matches (9 at home, 8 away), with the last 5 being victorious with a total score of 14:4. Mohamed Salah has been prolific in each of his 6 starts, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. Moreover, if we consider last season’s achievements, then in addition to Salah’s current output, we should also add his 8 appearances in Liverpool’s last 6 matches of the 22/23 campaign, starting from Matchday 34 (from 30th April), when Tottenham were defeated 4-3 at Anfield in a dramatic encounter. Thus, the Egyptian has a total of 15 assists in 12 consecutive EPL matches – 6 goals and 9 assists – and we expect him to have his say here as well.

Son Heung-min at the other end of the pitch will try to offset his efforts, the 31-year-old striker is keeping up his form and has already managed to net 5 goals in 6 matches this championship. Notably, the South Korean bagged a brace against bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last match.

And the head-to-head statistics speak in favor of the Reds. Hotspur’s last home win over Liverpool came 11 years ago (28th November 2012, 2:1 at White Hart Lane). Since then, in 8 subsequent home matches: 5 Liverpool wins, 3 draws, goals 17:5 in favor of the Reds. Every series comes to an end, but we don’t believe that Spurs will be able to break such spectacular and aspiring lads of Jurgen Klopp now. The maximum that they should realistically expect is a draw, but a goalless draw. Firstly, Liverpool are strikingly consistent in conceding first in every match (in 9 of the last 10 matches in all competitions we have seen an exchange of goals). Secondly, the overall goal production of each team, coupled with the attacking brash style of play, hints at a goal-rich match.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Tottenham Hotspur’s individual total in the first half will be over 0,5 and the match total will be over 2,5 – Yes.
