Sunrisers Hyderabad will walk into the Monday game as favourites

The bottom-placed Delhi Capitals will be hoping to redeem itself on Monday as the team will one-on-one against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.

In the absence of their regular skipper Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals are struggling both with the bat and ball. Playing under the leadership of David Warner, the team has scored only one win from six league games. While the bowlers have done much in the league so far, it is the batting unit that is under fire for below-average performance.

The Capitals are the only side in the tournament who have not scored more than 175 runs in even one of their matches so far. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad are also struggling in the competition with only two wins and four losses. With four points, they are reeling at the second-last place in the standings.

SRH also needs to put some focus on their batting unit and score decent runs in the allotted 20 overs.

What has happened so far?

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be low on momentum on Monday as they are coming after recording two consecutive losses. Following their first win against Punjab Kings, the team was hammered by the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings by 14 runs and seven wickets, respectively.

In both games, the batters underperformed as they scored only 178 and 134 runs, respectively. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, scored their first win in the last match against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The franchise put an end to the losing streak of five games by cruising to a victory by four wickets.

Anrich Nortje, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ishant Sharma picked two wickets each as the Knight Riders scored only 127 runs in their 20 overs. Following the total in the second innings, Delhi lost some quick wickets, but a 57-run knock by the skipper David Warner steered them to a win.

Head to Head Record

Sunrisers Hyderabad are leading the head-to-head records against Delhi Capitals with a slight margin in the history of the Indian Premier League. The two teams have faced each other in a total of 21 matches so far and Hyderabad has scored a win in 11 games. The remaining ten matches resulted in Delhi Capitals establishing their domination.

The two teams faced each other only once in the tournament last year and the game witnessed DC cruising to a victory by 21 runs. The franchise scored 207 runs in the allotted 20 overs while Hyderabad was restricted to only 186 runs in the second innings.

Key Players

Mayank Markande (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Despite having bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik in the team, Sunrisers Hyderabad have been struggling with the ball. However, the spinner Mayank Markande is the only saving grace for the franchise in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Mayank Markande has shone for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023

He has done slightly better in the competition with eight wickets in four matches at an average of 12.50. Mayank also exhibited decent form in the last game against Chennai Super Kings when his team was defending 134 runs in 20 overs. The 25-year-old picked two wickets in four overs while conceding only 23 runs.

David Warner (Delhi Capitals)

David Warner will be the best player for the Capitals on Monday as they will square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In six matches, Warner has amassed 285 runs at an average of over 47. The opening batter is the top run-scorer for DC and the second-highest overall.

Having said that, the batter needs to put more focus on increasing his strike rate to ensure a good total for his franchise at the end of 20 overs.

Predicted Playing XIs

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Harry Brook, Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram ©, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Marco Jansen, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik

Prediction

Not much is expected from the Monday game as the laggards of the points table, Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, will be locking horns with each other.

Having said that, the Sunrisers are likely to score a victory as they have shown more promise in the tournament. The team has done better and is likely to outshine the Capitals who seem to have lost the rhythm as they have neither made an impact with the bat nor with the ball in the tournament so far.
