Poland will host the Czech Republic in a EURO 2024 qualification match. This is the last chance for Robert Lewandowski and Co. to get 3 points and go to Germany for the prestigious championship

Poland will host Czech Republic in the UEFA EURO 2024 Group E 9th qualification round match at the National Stadium in Warsaw. The fixture will take place on Saturday, November 18, beginning at 01:15 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Poland News & Current Form:

The Polish national team is in third place in Group E after seven matches played, in which they scored 10 points. They have only 3 wins in 7 rounds of qualification for the continental championship. The Poles risk becoming one of the main disappointments of qualification. Under certain circumstances, even a win in the upcoming match will not save them.

In September, the Polish football federation dismissed Fernando Santos, who triumphed at the 2016 EURO with Portugal but failed to lead the Eagles to the same result. Michal Probierz was appointed as the new head coach. In the long term, the decision may be the right one, but it is unlikely to dramatically affect the current situation.

The 51-year-old specialist made his debut with a 2:0 victory over the Faroe Islands. In the second match of the October pool his wards ended in peace with Moldova (1:1). The Poles failed to beat their opponent, despite having 72% of the time in possession of the ball and 21 shots (against the four of their competitor). This draw will most likely prevent the Red and Whites from qualifying for Euro 2024.

New coach of the Polish national team – Michal Probierz

The Eagles defeated Albania (1:0) and twice the Faroe Islands with the same score of 2:0. They drew with Moldova (1:1 and 2:3) and lost to the Czechs (1:3) and Albanians (0:2). Robert Lewandowski could not pull the team through alone, with three goals and one assist so far in the competition.

Number 9 is not in the best shape after recovering from injury. He gave a series of six matches for FC Barcelona without scoring, only in the last round of the La Liga Lewandowski scored two goals against Deportivo Alaves. Nevertheless, psychologically the Pole is not at his best, as can be seen by the conflict with teammate Lamine Yamal. Moreover, Robert yelled at his teammate during the game.

It is time for change in the Polish national team, Lewandowski will be 36 years old by the time of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and other key players have passed their peak form. It is very likely that gaffer’s task is to make a generational change. For example, striker Karol Swiderski could take on the burden of leadership.

As for injuries, Patryk Dziczek and Adrian Benedyczak are also out due to injury, while Kamil Piatkowski remains absent for an extensive period of time. Defender Sebastian Walukiewicz is also absent due to injury, while his Empoli FC teammate Bartosz Bereszynski is out of the lineup.

Arkadiusz Milik and Jakub Kaminski were also unexpectedly left out of the squad for the final match in the group, while young star Matty Cash of Aston Villa FC will miss the upcoming match despite battling back from injury after missing the game with Moldova.

In addition, the Reds compete not only with the upcoming opponent, but also with Moldova, who first have to play with the group leader Albanians, and then with the Czechs. But Probierz’s charges realize that they are satisfied only with a victory, so they will have to play exclusively for three points. Although they managed to win only one of the last three qualification matches, and that was against the Faroe Islands.

Czech Republic News & Current Form:

The Lions have never missed the final rounds of the continental championships. But in October, the team almost lost their chances of qualifying for the main part of Euro 2024.

Silhavy’s men lost 0:3 to Albania and then nearly embarrassed themselves against the Faroe Islands. The Czechs dominated the field, but were able to defeat the clear Group E outsider only thanks to a penalty kick converted by Tomas Soucek, player of West Ham United FC, in the end of the match.

As a result, Albania and the Czech Republic seized the lead in Group E, finishing in the top two places with a game in hand over Poland. They face a crucial international break in November. One more point would be enough for Albania to secure a place at the Euros for the second time in history, while the Czech Republic needs three more.

Coach of Czech national team of 5 years – Jaroslav Silhavy

The Czech Republic have conceded just five goals in six qualifying matches, with three of those coming against Group E leaders Albania in October. The Blues have 11 points after six matches. The Blues and Reds defeated Poland (3:1) and twice the Faroe Islands (3:0 and 1:0), and drew against Moldova (0:0) and Albania (1:1). Despite the fact that the Lions have only 3 wins in the current Euro qualification, they have practically guaranteed themselves an entry to the continental championship.

It turns out that the national team can act, if not relaxed, then not under unnecessary pressure as a rival. It should also be taken into account that all questions can be removed now in case of their own victory and loss of points by Moldovans, who, as mentioned above, have to play with Albanians.

Czech head coach Jaroslav Silhavy can not count on several leaders of the team, who are injured. Forward Patrik Schick, goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka and key defender Ladislav Krejci are out. Jan Kuchta, who scored one goal in qualifying for Euro 2024, is likely to appear in the attacking line. But the Czechs have a pretty strong squad, so they won’t have any big problems.

What has been said before the match:

Recently appointed coach of the Polish national team Michal Probierz about the playing style of the upcoming opponent and top scorer Lewandowski:

“We are aware that the Czech national team plays very strongly, aggressively, which was already evident in the first meeting. From the first minutes they try to impose this style of play on the opponent. We have to oppose this, and after recovering the ball, smoothly move to the attacking phase.”

“As long as there is a chance, we want to fight for direct promotion. We didn’t take the chance we had in our hands, so we’ll have to count on luck and favorable results in other meetings. What matters now is our skirmish with the Czech Republic. I must admit that I am very pleased with the approach of the players. Despite the fact that someone will have to be out of the team, everyone is training with maximum commitment. The players are accepting the comments given by the training staff, and I am very happy about that.”

“Robert is one of the best strikers in the world and younger players can draw from him. I see that they often talk to him. In my opinion, the atmosphere in the team is very good, it’s motivating. We need to be open with each other inside the team. This adds confidence in actions.”

Gaffer of the Lions Jaroslav Silhavy about the first meeting with Poland that happened in Prague:

“I still consider Poland as a great opponent, although some games didn’t go well and changes were made, but they are still a great team with great players. They are playing for the last hope, it won’t be an easy game. Nevertheless, I believe that we are well prepared and we will be able to handle the match.”

“The first match in Prague was a whirlwind from our side. We were quickly leading 2:0 and the opponent was scalded. We managed the match overall, it was great. I don’t think Poland will allow us to do that again on Friday, although we wouldn’t be angry for a similar development, of course.”

Poland vs Czech Republic Prediction:

Poland must win this match to keep their chances of securing the top two qualification places. They are currently in third place in the standings, one point behind their current opponents, with the latter still having a game in hand. The Czech national team suffered only one defeat in the current qualifying cycle, but managed to win only two of the last five matches.

In the first face-to-face match, where nothing was at stake, there were 10 shots in total, and here the game has a crucial character, where each team needs all three points. Poles shoot almost 5 times per game, and the Czechs strike 5 times more. Here we should expect at least an exchange of goals. The motivation and initiative will be on the side of Michal Probierz’s guys, and the home field factor should not be forgotten, which allows us to assume that the Eagles will be able to defend at least 1 point.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: both teams will score and Poland will not lose – Yes.
