Odisha signs former Mumbai City and Goa midfielder Ahmed Jahouh

Ahmed Jahouh has been at the heart of several top sides like Goa and Mumbai City

After appointing Sergio Lobera as the new head coach of the club, Odisha has roped in one of his favorite midfield stalwarts in Ahmed Jahouh ahead of the 2023-24 Indian Super League season.

The central midfielder has pulled strings in a few of the ISL’s elite midfield combinations having played with Edu Bedia, Hugo Boumous, Brandon Fernandes, Lenny Rodrigues, Apuia, Vinit Rai, and Alberto Noguera in the last four ISL seasons.

The former Goa and Mumbai City midfielder will join the Juggernauts after winning three ISL League Winners’ Shields and the ISL trophy as well in the 2020-21 ISL season.

The midfield general is excited to start the new journey with his third club in the ISL. He said,

“It’s my absolute pleasure to join the Kalinga Warriors for the new season. I can’t wait to reach Bhubaneswar, meet my teammates, and get started. Let’s go Odisha!”

The 2023 Super Cup winners welcome the Moroccan international who has now spent six years on the west coast of the Indian shores and will now get to experience the eastern coastline of the country for two years as the 34-year old has penned a contract till the end of the 2024-25 season.

Jahouh was introduced to the ISL by Lobera as the Spaniard made the central midfielder one of his first signings when he put pen to paper at Goa in 2017. The midfielder made 56 appearances for the Gaurs across three seasons helping them qualify for the playoffs on three consecutive occasions apart from winning the 2019 Super Cup and the 2019-20 ISL League WInners’ Shield. Jahouh contributed 6 assists and scored a solitary goal in his three-year stay with Goa.

The midfield general then followed Lobera to Mumbai City and certainly upped his goal contributions as he provided 5 assists in his debut season with the Islanders helping Lobera’s men win the 2020-21 ISL League Winners’ Shield. In the next season, under the stewardship of Des Buckingham, Jahouh experienced his best ISL season as he scored 3 goals and provided 7 assists in only 15 appearances.

After making his AFC Champions League bow where the midfielder provided a solitary assist in 6 appearances, Jahouh scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in 21 ISL 2022-23 appearances where he won the League Winners’ Shield for the third time in his illustrious ISL career.

After extending the contracts of key players Amrinder Singh and Diego Mauricio who shore up the defensive line and the attacking duties of the club respectively, Jahouh will hope to take on the role of the experienced midfield lynchpin connecting defense with attack throughout the season.
