After securing the signings of former Chennaiyin skipper Anirudh Thapa and Albanian forward Armando Sadiku, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has roped in former Nottingham Forest and Rangers striker Jason Cummings.

The Mariners have secured the Australian international’s signature till the end of the 2025-26 Indian Super League season and the fans would be delighted to see a prolific striker joining an already well-knit forward line.

Cummings opened up about following Indian football before signing for Mohun Bagan SG and also hailed the century-old club’s legacy while putting pen to paper.

The left-footed striker said,

“I have been observing Indian club football for the last few years. When Mohun Bagan Super Giant approached me, I started to inquire about the club and got to know about the rich heritage of this century-old club. Besides, this club has achieved the status of being the best club in India by winning the Hero ISL title. I am hopeful that I will help them add more trophies to their trophy cabinet in the upcoming three years.”

Born in Edinburgh, Cummins made his senior debut for Hibernian and scored 56 goals in 114 appearances before switching to then EFL Championship club Nottingham Forest where he could only muster a single goal in 14 league appearances and was loaned out to Rangers for the second half of that season.

Spells with Shrewsbury Town and Dundee were followed by a move out of the United Kingdom for the first time to the Central Coast Mariners and Cummings adapted to Australian football very quickly, even making his Australian national team debut in the 2022 FIFA World Cup against eventual finalists France.

Cummings scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists in 49 A-League appearances including a hat-trick in the 2023 A-League Grand Final which helped the Coast Mariners win the title after a 10-year wait.

Juan Ferrando was full of praise for the club’s new recruit and talked about Cummings’ abilities on and off the ball which will aid him in the upcoming season.

The Spaniard said,

“Everyone knows how good of a footballer Jason is. He enjoys playing a highly attacking and pressing style of football, which perfectly aligns with my strategy. He possesses excellent ball control, creates space for others, and is clinical in front of goal. Another admirable quality of his is – that he is a perfect team player.”

The Mariners’ head coach concluded,

“It is a huge thing that a current World Cup player like Jason Cummings has agreed to come to India. This demonstrates the impact of the Hero ISL on the growth of Indian football.”

The squad assembled by Ferrando and Mohun Bagan SG is looking like an intimidating one with the likes of Manvir Singh, Hugo Boumous, Sadiku, Liston Colaco, and Cummings supported by the likes of Asish Rai, Subasish Bose, Thapa, Glan Martins, and Carl McHugh from the midfield and full-back areas.
