Feyenoord News & Current Form:

Friday’s match between Feyenoord and PSV for the Dutch Super Cup will mark the start of the new season in the country.

Impressively, the Pride of South lost just 2 of their 34 matches in the league last season, winning 25 and drawing seven times. Remarkably, the defense of charges of  Arne Slot was the second most reliable in the league, conceding just 30 goals in 34 rounds, FC Twente have 27 conceded goals.

As a result, the team won their first Eredivisie title since the 2016/2017 season, breaking Ajax’s streak of three consecutive championships. Prior to that, the Rotterdam-based club had not won the national championship title for six years.

In the National Cup, The Club of the People managed to reach the semi-finals, where they lost to AFC Ajax Amsterdam. The Rotterdam side also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League, but lost to AS Roma on aggregate.

In preparation for the new season, the team played six friendly games: three wins, two draws and a defeat. In the last game Feyenoord beat SL Benfica 2 – 1. The goals came from last season’s top scorer Santiago Gimenez and Igor Paixao.

Gimenez’s proficiency in finding the net shines through, with an impressive tally of 15 Eredivisie goals and five Europa League goals from the last season, while potential support comes from Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who showcased his penalty prowess in the recent draw against Villarreal CF

In the off-season, the champion sold midfielder Orkun Kökçü to Benfica and earned €25m for the transfer. In addition, striker Danilo Pereira  left for Rangers FC for €6.3m. These two scored more than 15 assists last season, Danilo 14+4 and Orkun 12+4. Among the acquisitions, we highlight the transfer of supporting midfielder Ramiz Zerrouki from Twente and attacking player Calvin Stengs from OGC Nice.

Another exciting addition to the squad is Newcastle United FC loanee Yankuba Minteh, who demonstrated his scoring abilities from the spot during his debut for Feyenoord against PEC Zwolle, though he is likely to begin as a substitute for the upcoming Friday evening match.

What has been said before the match:

Coach of Feyenoord Arne Slot ahead of the final game:

“If you use a style of play where you want to chase down high on the opponent’s half, you have to be 100 percent. That just has to be done with the right intensity and concentration, because you take quite a few risks.”

“Given the opponent we face, I do think it’s going to be a match at 110 percent intensity. I do think that if you come out well in this match it gives confidence for the season.”

“I think Peter Bosz did delight Dutch football with the way he played. I think we can all remember Ajax’s period in Europe. That was nice to see and typical of Bosz’s style. Apart from the prizes, that is perhaps the most beautiful thing you can achieve as a coach. That someone calls your name and everyone knows what it stands for.”

Peter Bosz, who is in charge of PSV, about the opponent.

“If you go to school and you don’t do your best one hundred percent, it won’t go well. It’s the same in football. Otherwise there is no point in doing these things. Then it’s better to stay inside.”

“Regardless of how the game against Feyenoord is going to go, I feel we have a good eleven. I’ve had plenty of preparations where things didn’t work out and we missed things, but I don’t have that now. I already feel it’s going to be a good season.”

“I enjoyed watching Feyenoord last year. I am a football fan and I like to watch football. With Feyenoord, I always watch 90 minutes with concentration because it fascinates me. That is a big compliment.”

Feyenoord vs PSV Eindhoven Prediction:

In the grand scheme of things, Feyenoord and PSV are well-matched adversaries, as evident from their top finishes in the previous championship season which is not a rarity. As they head into the 23/24 campaign, both teams have enjoyed productive pre-seasons. Peter Bosz and his boys, in particular, are in excellent shape, boasting an impressive streak of four consecutive wins. Meanwhile, charges of Arne Slot approach the upcoming season with a positive and measured outlook as well, securing three wins and two draws in their five summer friendlies.

Notably, neither Feyenoord nor PSV adopts a defensive mindset; instead, both clubs exhibit a powerful attacking lineup. They seize every opportunity to build their own attacks, reflecting their energetic and motivated approach as the new season begins.
