Eintracht are eager to secure a crucial win in their pursuit of a Eurocups 23/24, will Oliver Glasner and Co. be able to get all 3 points at home?

Eintracht Frankfurt will host Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga 28th-tour match at Deutsche Bank Park Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, April 15, beginning at 22:00 IST.

What can we expect this Saturday night? Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Eintracht Frankfurt News & Current Form:

As winners of the last UEFA Europa League, the team had a possibility to reinforce the squad for the UEFA Champions League in the offseason, which allowed them to play well in the group stage of the tournament and the first half of the national championship. Another thing is that the players lacked the stamina and emotional maturity to fight immediately on several fronts, and therefore lately they suffered a decline.

Oliver Glasner’s charges recently lost their playing form and can’t please their fans with victories for 6 rounds in a row. Even against such outsiders as VfL Bochum (1:1) and VfB Stuttgart (1:1) the Eagles did not get 100% of points. It should be noted that Eintracht failed to score in only one game during this period.

The club paid for their wastefulness by losing their place in the Eurocup zone after last round’s defeat to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (1:3), now the club is in seventh place, two points behind Bayer, risking to remain without Eurocups for the next season.

At the same time, the Eagles perform relatively well at home: in the last nine home games they scored five wins, three draws and the only time they lost to SSC Napoli in the Champions League. It was the loss to Napoli that knocked the team out of the current UCL draw.

The Germans lost 0:2 and 0:3, they clearly had no chance against a team like Napoli. Now in the way of the hosts are Borussia Mönchengladbach, who also look sluggish now, but in the case of their victory can reduce the gap from Oliver Glasner’s charges to three points.

Eintracht and Borussia saw each other on October 22 in Mönchengladbach. That time the Eagles won with a score of 3:1. In the last five meetings Eintracht won twice and Borussia only once, also there were two draws.

But the good news is that Glasner’s side recently defeated FC Union Berlin 2:0 to advance to the DFB-Pokal semifinals. Both goals were scored by French striker Randal Kolo-Muani.

Top scorer of Eintracht Frankfurt and Bundesliga –  Randal Kolo Muani

The team are generating an average of 1.5 xG per game while allowing 1.28 xG. In the upcoming meeting, Eintracht will have problems with creativity in the final third. Key midfielder Mario Gotze, the scorer of the World Cup 2014 decider, is serving a suspension, and fellow player Jesper Lindstrom has not yet fully recovered from injury.

The team also has other injuries. Philipp Max (thigh), and Hrvoje Smolcic (knee) will all be absent for Frankfurt. There are doubts surrounding Evan Ndicka and Almamy Toure due to muscle strains, which could mean Tuta and Christopher Lenz will have to step up to the plate and cover the left-hand side of the hosts’ defensive line.

Daichi Kamada is likely to replace Gotze in the attacking midfield position, given that he has only been used as a substitute in recent weeks. However, it may be too soon for Junior Dina Ebimbe to make his first start since January, following his return from a syndesmotic tear against Leverkusen.

It was recently announced that Kamada refused to renew his contract with the club, hence the player will leave Eintracht at the end of current season.

Borussia M’gladbach News & Current Form:

The team is having an extremely inconsistent season. The current 10th place in the standings can hardly be called a success. The gap from the top six is 8 points, the gap from the relegation zone is 12 points. In fact, the team is already in no danger of relegation, but not in the fight for European competition.

Last time round in the championship the team broke the five-match unbeaten streak by beating VfL Wolfsburg (2:0). Nathan Ngoumou and Marcus Thuram got the goals. The second one has already netted 13 goals in the current German championship. No wonder FC Bayern Munich are interested in him.

Away the team had only one victory in the current championship (5 draws, 7 defeats). Borussia’s offensive metrics are very modest: the team scored only 13 away goals in this Bundesliga season, worse than the similar indicator of only three clubs in the tournament. And in the three previous matches on foreign fields, the team did not score once. The 22.8% of points scored on the road is an eloquent testament to that.

The rivalry between Eintracht and Borussia in recent years has been very productive. In the previous nine head-to-head encounters, the opponents combined for 37 goals (4.11 on average per game), which is a very high figure even by the standards of the Bundesliga. So the match is going to be action-packed.

Tony Jantschke and Yvandro Borges Sanches will not be available for Gladbach’s trip due to knee and ankle issues, respectively. However, apart from these two players, the Foals have a fully fit squad at their disposal.

Manu Kone is expected to make a comeback in the visitors’ midfield after being suspended for the victory against Wolfsburg. Jonas Hofmann may replace Ngoumou on the right flank, despite the 23-year-old scoring the opening goal in the last game.

Borussia Mönchengladbach squad after a win over VfB Wolfsburg

Borussia are expecting a huge squad change after this season ends. Club director Roland Virkus said that three key players will leave the club this summer. Namely, Marcus Thuram and Ramy Bensebaini will leave the club as free agents in June.

This how Virkus commented the situation:

“It is a shame that Marcus and Ramy won’t be extending their current contracts because they have helped us immensely on the witch in the past few years and are still doing that now. We understand that our fans are justifiably disappointed, but despite that, both players have still earned a worthy send-off.”

Captain Lars Stindl will also leave the team at the end of the season. The German club’s forward posted a farewell video for the club’s fans on social media. Stindl has played for Borussia since 2015. He played a total of 168 games for the club, in which he scored 52 goals.

The management extended the contract of defender Tony Janschke, which was ending at the end of the season, by one year, until 2024.

“Tony has played at Borussia for almost 17 years and is one of the defining faces of the club. He’s an important figure in the team, and his word carries weight. We are happy that Tony will stay on after his playing career and share his years of experience,”

said Virkus.

What has been said before the match:

Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner is looking ahead to a tough clash:

“I see two teams at a similar level. Little things will decide the game –  – like earlier this season, when we had good moments in transition and converted our chances. That’s going to be important again.”

“They have robustness and pace in their play, they always like to bring in their wide players. But they also offer you spaces, which we need to use. I expect a hard-fought match.”

“Junior is ready to return to the starting XI. Whether he can last 90 minutes and what position he’ll play in, I can’t tell you yet. Lenz could start in the middle. That would mean playing a right-footer on the left wing.”

“Personnel-wise, training this week has been mixed. Ndicka couldn’t train today – we’ll have to wait and see there. As for Max, he has a muscle complaint and is ruled out.”

Foals coach Daniel Farke is happy about the recent win, however ahead of his team is a very challenging game:

“Frankfurt are a dangerous counterattacking side. We will need to be solid in possession and well-organized to deal with them. It’s something we didn’t do well enough in the first meeting.”

“We’re going into the final seven games with a real sense of anticipation. We will try and pick up as many points as we can, then we will see where we end up after Matchday 34.”

“All of my players are part of my plans until they’re out of contract. We agreed to a long-term deal with Marvin Friedrich because we believe in him and his ability. I still hold him in just as much regard.”

Nico Elvedi is a doubt. He sat out training today with a small knee problem. We’ll have to wait and see if he can take part in final training.”

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia M’gladbach Prediction:

Gladbach boys now stand in the way of the hosts’ Eurocup spots quest. The Black and Whites also look sluggish at the moment, but if they win, they could reduce the gap with Oliver Glasner’s side to just three points — which proves to be a good and palpable motivation.

However, it is hard to believe that this scenario will play out. Eintracht are good at home (lost only 3 times in 13 games), while Borussia are one of the worst away teams in the league (one win in 13 games – the level of the relegation candidates). In the upcoming meeting, the Frankfurt side will be able to break their winless streak in the Bundesliga, even despite the projected lack of variability in the final third due to personnel limitations. The absence of a creative element will seriously complicate things against Borussia’s low defensive block, leading to a closely-controlled and low-scoring match – the Gladbachians are an uncomfortable opponent for the hosts and this will affect the overall total.

A curious trend in the head-to-head encounters between these teams can be looked at – four of the five matches at Deutsche Bank Park between these teams have seen an exchange of goals. Probably, it will happen this time too.
