With nine rounds of the EPL behind us, Tottenham have never lost. Will the old Roy and Odsonne Edouard be able to match the league leaders?

Crystal Palace FC will host Tottenham Hotspur FC in the English Premier League 10th round match at the Selhurst Park Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, October 28, beginning at 00:30 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Crystal Palace News & Current Form:

It was Roy Hodgson who turned the Eagles into a stable middle of the EPL. Gradually this got boring, and owner-president Steve Parish tried to change something, in 2021 rejuvenating the squad and bringing in Patrick Vieira, who was also a novice and considered quite promising as a mentor.

But after a successful first season, last winter the Glaziers seemed to have forgotten how to win. The only recipe was the Frenchman’s resignation and the return of his predecessor – and things improved quite noticeably right away.

The new season brought a new challenge: the contract of Wilfried Zaha expired and the longtime leader, who refused to be sold to anyone, left as a free agent. The player was replaced by Odsonne Edouard, who had spent a couple of mediocre years in London. Thanks to the Frenchman’s goals, the capital club got off to a good start, more or less regularly gaining points and even winning.

It was expected that this season Crystal Palace would settle at the bottom of the standings, but the team shamed the skeptics, scoring in nine games 12 points, and now occupies 11th place in the overall Premier League standings.

The Londoners have everything they need to finish near the equator of the table, although the players can not help but think about the potential fight for the European Cup zone. At the same time, the team’s attack is not impressive at all – only seven goals scored, only the players of outsider AFC Bournemouth (six goals) hit the opponents’ gates less.

Odsonne Edouard – top scorer of Crystal Palace FC with 5 goals to his name

Before leaving for a 2-week break the Eagles scored 5 points in 3 rounds of the EPL, without suffering a single defeat. First Roy Hodgson’s wards won against Manchester United FC (0:1), and then there was a home draw with Nottingham Forest FC (0:0).

The reason for this success is hidden in the defense, which for the mentioned period led to three games without conceding goals. However, by xGA rivals created dangerous moments for 3.07 goals.

After the resumption of games in the championship of England Crystal Palace met with the team playing in the UEFA Champions League Newcastle United FC, the meeting ended unsatisfactory for the Londoners.

Jacob Murphy put the Magpies ahead in the opening stages, while Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff also scored before the break, before Callum Wilson made it 4:0 at the hour mark.

On xG the opponent deservedly scored 3 points – 3.73 vs 1.09. The problems in defense of Roy Hodgson’s team did not go anywhere. When the opponent’s realization turned out to be high, it led to defeat. It is worth noting that on their field Londoners are unbeaten in three rounds in a row.

On Friday, Crystal Palace will still not be able to count on a number of key players: wingers Michael Olise and Jeffrey Schlupp, playmaker Eberechi Eze, as well as defenders Nathan Ferguson and James Tomkins, who have not yet fully recovered from injuries. In addition, the availability of backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson remains in question.

Summer recruits Jefferson Lerma and Matheus Franca will surely appear in the starting lineup, while French striker Edouard (4 goals) should be at the cutting edge of the attack. Otherwise, Hodgson will use his usual 4-3-3 scheme, so Will Hughes and Cheick Doucouré will appear in midfield. And Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi will take up positions in the center of defense, despite the failed performance against Newcastle.

Tottenham Hotspur News & Current Form:

Spurs are leaders of the English Premier League right now, it’s unbelievable and surprising to most football fans. The club sold Harry Kane to FC Bayern Munich in the summer and did without any high-profile acquisitions.

One of the main creators of the current success of the guests is mentor Ange Postecoglou. The new Tottenham manager quickly found a common language with the team and taught them how to play in attack.

As a result, the team from the capital of England has 23 points in its assets and sits on the first position in the standings. Manchester City and Arsenal FC  with 21 points in the second and third position with Liverpool FC closing the top-4 with 20 earned points. The Spurs looked better than in the current draw only in the 1960/61 season, when they had the maximum result in this stretch of the championship. Londoners have already scored 20 goals, conceding only eight, which is the second best number in the league – such indicators can not but please the fans.

At the end of last season Londoners failed to break into the European Cup, so they can devote themselves fully to the championship. In addition, the Spurs are already out of the English Football League Cup, having lost to Fulham FC in a penalty shootout in the 1/32nd final.

In that fixture, the coach released 8 players from the closest reserve on the field. This affected the cohesion of the team, which led to a draw in regulation time (1:1). Both goals were scored by Tottenham – one in their own net. The Cottagers won in a penalty shootout (5:4).

Son Heung-min and James Maddison after scoring goals in a game with Fulham FC

The Spurs celebrated victories over Burnley FC (2:5) and Sheffield United FC (2:1). Then there was a 2:2 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates, Tottenham beat Liverpool (2:1), Luton Town FC (0:1) and Fulham (2:0) last Monday. Son Heung-min is doing a brilliant job with his captaincy, rallying the team around him, the Korean striker has already scored 7 goals in 9 rounds.

James Maddison is also keeping pace with him, they scored together in the last match, with Hotspur now looking to make it four wins in a row and move further away from the Gunners in the overall standings. Postecoglou’s side have picked up 11 points from five EPL away trips in the current campaign, the best tally of any team in the league.

It is also worth noting that Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou has set a new record. No coach before him has ever scored 23 points in 9 starting rounds. However, behind such brilliant results are not the most impressive figures. For example, the Spurs do not boast a monolithic defense (xGA = 1.31).

The club still remains lamenting the absence of key midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, wingers Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon, as well as backup goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman and defender Ryan Sessegnon. However, supporting midfielder Bissouma has served his suspension and will logically be in the starting lineup on Friday.

What has been said before the match:

Roy Hodgson, head coach of the Eagles,  ahead of the game with the EPL leaders Tottenham:

“Eze and Olise were so important towards the end of last season, there is not a doubt about that, so it would be wrong to say we don’t miss them. But I must say, the players who have come in have done a good job.”

“Before our game against Newcastle, our points tally from the number of games was more than satisfactory. But like all teams, we don’t want to lose players of their ability, and especially their creative ability.”

“As far as I’m concerned, they can’t come back quick enough to help us go forwards and help us maybe to be a bit more potent when we have the ball in the opposing team’s half.”

“Except for Eze, Olise and Henderson, we have everybody back now and ready to play, so certainly the situation with regards to selecting the XI and selecting the bench is quite a different proposition to what it was a few weeks ago.”

Newly appointed gaffer of the Spurs Ange about legend Roy Hodgson:

“Roy’s had an outstanding career, still going, and for someone like me in particular, who’s had a different journey, you look at guys like Roy and I’ve huge admiration for him. He’s pretty much done it all in the game. As a manager, obviously you want to have success, but it’s the fullness of your experiences that make your career meaningful.”

“I know whenever he does end, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to end any time soon for him in terms of his managerial career, he’ll look back and he’s had the full experience, something we can all aspire to. I’ve come across Roy a few times in my career and he’s an absolute gentleman with his time and always respectful. It’s great to see him still going.”

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction:

Crystal Palace is not a high flying side, the ambitions and resources are modest, so as in the previous season they are expectably staying in the middle of the table. Actually this state of affairs suits the Glaziers’ management, the most important thing is to stay away from the relegation zone. Palace in the current season does not shine, gaining points only in those matches where the level of opponents is anything but high. The only exception is the victory over Man United, but the Red Devils were far from perfect back then.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have made an impressive run since the start of the league season, picking up 23 out of a possible 27 points. The best start in EPL history now allows the Londoners to take sole possession of the lead in the Premier League standings. With such an opponent, it will be extremely difficult for the Eagles to count on success, besides, Spurs are not playing in the European Cup this season, and therefore will certainly have time to recover and prepare thoroughly for a particular opponent.

Tottenham are not just picking up points in every game this season, but are also remarkably prolific in attack. Even despite the departure of their attacking spearhead, captain Harry Kane. In nine games, Ange Postecoglou’s men have already scored 20 goals (2.22 per game on average), a very respectable total for such a prolonged run, despite having scored less than two goals per game only once, when they beat Luton 1-0, playing the entire second half in the minority. The Eagles conceded four unanswered goals from Newcastle in the last round, which highlights their defensive problems. We believe that the visitors will be able to strengthen their lead by scoring at least 2 goals at Selhurst Park.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Tottenham Hotspur win with an individual total over 1.5 – Yes.
