Cadiz will host Granada on Saturday

Cadiz CF will host Granada CF in the La Liga 30th-round match at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 01:30 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Cadiz News & Current Form:

Cadiz are having a difficult season: the club is desperately trying to stay in La Liga. The Yellow Submarine started the season with wins over Deportivo Alaves and Villarreal CF in four rounds, but then the team lost momentum.

Then came the resignation of the head coach. Now Cadiz is headed by Mauricio Pellegrino, but with the new specialist, the club has not yet been able to improve positions.

In March, the team had three official matches that saw 2 positive results: a draw with Rayo Vallecano, and a 2:0 victory over Atletico de Madrid on the home field. It should be noted that it was the first victory in the championship since the beginning of September. 30-year-old Juanmi, who doesn’t have much playing time this season, unexpectedly scored a brace.

However, immediately after that surprising triumph, the club lost to Real Sociedad CF with the same score. During the pause, the club played a friendly match against Como 1907, a 1:1 draw.

Recently appointed coach of Cadiz CF – Mauricio Pellegrino

In general, Cadiz has only won three times in the current campaign, played 13 times in the draw and suffered 13 setbacks in 29 rounds, thanks to which they occupy only 18th place in the standings with 22 points.

The gap from RC Celta de Vigo, who are in the life-saving 17th position, is five points, which means that they need to get points in a hurry. However, there are still a lot of difficult matches on the calendar, including derbies and meetings with the leaders, but the Andalusians finish with a game against UD Almeria (20th place).

Interesting fact: the hosts spend the fourth consecutive season in the elite of Spanish football, which is their best result since the early 1990s. It should be noted that Pellegrino’s charges have scored 16 out of 22 points exactly at home, and throughout the season only capitulated four times in front of their fans.

Maximiliano Gomez (24 games) was injured in the game against Sociedad and is unlikely to recover in time for Saturday, while Fede San Emeterio (torn anterior cruciate ligament), Luis Hernandez and Roger Marti (fractured fibula) will definitely not take part in the match. Chris Ramos, who has scored 5 goals in the current campaign, is likely to be on the attacking end, as is Darwin Machis (4 goals), Robert Navarro will support them on the wing.

Granada News & Current Form:

Granada, the reigning Segunda champions, are having a tough time this season as well: the team is 13 points behind the 17th place. This handicap, of course, is almost impossible to win back, given that the Red and Whites have won only one of their last 25 games in La Liga and are in a terrible state – nine rounds without a win and six defeats, including three in a row before the international break.

These failures came against Villarreal (5:1), Real Sociedad (2:3) and RCD Mallorca (1:0), in the last round they failed to reach a draw, conceding in the 85th minute from a corner kick (0:1). Granada played three matches in February and all ended in draws. There was a very exciting meeting at Camp Nou, where the team managed to take points away from FC Barcelona (3:3).

Due to poor results, Alexander Medina was fired as head coach on March 19, and Jose Ramon Sandoval took the reins again. It is unlikely that the change of mentor will dramatically change anything in the team’s game, moreover, the new coach has not had two years of coaching experience.

Obviously, a misfire on Saturday will mean relegation for the Andalusians. It is important to note that the guests have the worst defensive performance in La Liga, having conceded 58 times in 28 rounds. In addition, Granada is absolutely the worst team in the championship in terms of performances outside the home walls (only 2 points in 14 away meetings). By the way, the last time the team scored a point was back in February.

Jose Ramon Sandoval, who was coaching Granada in 2016, returned to the team again

In the last 5 out of 6 matches Granada scored: in terms of xG the Nazaríes are far from the worst (unlike Cadiz), but there are some deficiencies in set pieces. The team struggles to convert chances and concedes decently (10 goals from set pieces is the 4th indicator from the end).

The team can probably count on the return of key midfielder Sergio Ruiz (2 assists in 25 games), who served a suspension for yellow cards last round. Argentine striker Lucas Boye will definitely not play due to an injury, but the rest of the players are preparing to take the field.

The coaching staff is counting on the top scorer of Segunda Myrto Uzuni (9 goals), but Bryan Zaragoza (6 goals in the first half of the season) moved to FC Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window. Facundo Pellistri will again be on the left flank of the attack, while Kamil Jozwiak is likely to play on the opposite flank.

What has been said before the match:

Gaffer of the Yellow Submarine Pellegrino about time well spent during the break:

“We have had a lot of training sessions and the game against Como was very good for us to have minutes. It has been two weeks of preparation that have been good for us to prepare, refresh, also rest and face this game with great enthusiasm.”

“That the coach has doubts is good because it means that the entire team is working well. Those who are not playing too many minutes are prepared to play. We have a team that works well and is united, with this I take my hat off.”

“I don’t like to catalog the games we can win because we can win any game. I don’t like to put a label on the game. We have to focus on what we have to do and that will give us life until the end.”

Cadiz vs Granada Prediction:

Spanish football is famous for its flamboyance and this Friday night presents a 6-pointer that will definitely be full of emotions, as two rivals fighting for survival in La Liga are in action. Granada are set to travel to Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium, and they are playing miserably on the road, picking up only 2 points in 14 matches, the worst in the Spanish Primera. In general, the Nazaríes are having a very disappointing season, showing sluggish football, with the defensive line being particularly problematic, conceding 2 goals per game, more than any other team in the league. The change of head coach is designed to cheer up the team, but it is unclear what will help Granada to win in this clash of underdogs.

The Cádiz situation cannot be labeled as much better, however, the momentum of the Yellow Submarine before the pause for international matches inspires hope: in the last 4 rounds of La Liga Cádiz suffered only 1 defeat and gained 5 points. At the same time, the future hosts play relatively well at home, picking up an average of 1.14 points, and the fact that in the 28th round, the Yellow-Blues unexpectedly defeated Atlético Madrid (2:0) at home, creating many more dangerous chances (1.23 vs. 0.24 on xG) fuels optimism. In front of the home fans, Cadiz have scored 13 goals in their last 10 games, but on the whole, they are not renowned for their productivity, having scored an average of 0.7 goals per game this season (the worst in La Liga).

As it stands, the worst defense meets the league’s worst attack, which hints that we are unlikely to see a goal-filled match. The fact that only once in the last 7 head-to-head meetings between Cadiz and Granada more than 2.5 goals were registered – in the summer of 2018 in Segunda – confirms the assumption. The upcoming meeting holds utmost importance for Mauricio Pellegrino and his men, perhaps only a win on Friday can save the chances for the Yellow Submarine to stay afloat in the Spanish elite. In the first round, Granada defeated Cadiz on their home turf, however, we believe that now the result will be mirrored.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Cadiz will not lose and the match total will be less than 2.5 – Yes.
