Borussia Monchengladbach will host VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga 11th round match at the Borussia Park Stadium. The fixture will take place on Saturday, November 11, beginning at 01:00 IST.

Parimatch News will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Borussia M’gladbach News & Current Form:

The team has not started the current season in the best way, but now they are slowly trying to get out of this situation and regularly gain points. Borussia are 11th in the Bundesliga table with 10 points to their name.

The team is 8 points behind the 6th position that would allow them to qualify for the European Cup, moreover, the Mönchengladbach team is one of the most conceding teams in the league. The Foals have conceded 23 times in 10 meetings with 19 goals scored.

In the last 5 matches of the Bundesliga, the team started to play much better than at the start. During this period Borussia lost only to FC Cologne (1:3), won twice and drew the same number of times.

In the last round, Mönchengladbach had a 3:3 shootout with SC Freiburg. In that match the wards of Gerardo Seoane led 3:1, but in the middle of the second half the hosts reduced the gap, and at the end of extra time earned a penalty, which was realized by Vincenzo Grifo.

The club from Mönchengladbach prefers to play openly, without looking at their own goal. The average total of goals in matches with its participation (4.2) confirms this trend. On their field the Foals failed to score only in 2 matches out of 6, when they faced powerful Bayer 04 Leverkusen (0:3) and RB Leipzig (0:1).

Borussia and FC Heidenheim met for the third time in history and the second time in the last few days. First, the wards of Seoane took the upper hand and achieved their first home win of the Bundesliga season (2:1).

Crucial player for Borussia Monchengladbach Ko Itakura is out for several weeks due to an injury

Then these clubs met in the DFB-Pokal match and the high spirits after the first victory helped in this meeting (3:1). Jordan Siebatcheu scored a double six minutes apart. First, he was assisted by Robin Hack, who masterfully converted a corner kick, and then Nathan Ngoumou delivered the ball to the American on a silver platter.

Moments later, the forward could have scored a third goal, but shot over the crossbar. Heidenheim came to their senses only by the midway point of the half, but nothing more than a long-range interchange with Moritz Nicolas took place. Just before the break, Hack sealed the game. After a free kick from Luca Netz, the striker shot unopposed into the goal and brought the score to a big one.

The second half turned into a formality. The visitors’ coach tried to turn the game around by making four substitutions at halftime. The result came, but only in the 79th minute. Adrian Beck reduced the difference after a feed from Norman Theuerkauf, but the Green and Blacks were not allowed to do more. As a result, Borussia confidently passed in the 1/8 finals of the German Cup.

As for injuries in the team, Borussia have a real personnel disaster in defense. Head coach of the Green and Blacks Gerardo Seoane said that defender Ko Itakura underwent surgery on his ankle, which has been bothering him lately. According to the coach, it is a minor surgery, so the Japanese is expected to be back in action in a few weeks. Presumably, he will start training in mid-November.

“Ko is very important for us both in the preparatory game and as a defender because of his football mind, so we will definitely miss him. But we have to think of solutions and make up for his absence with personnel or tactics,” Seoane said.

The participation of his teammate Maximilian Wober is also in doubt. The main goalkeeper Jonas Omlin, main midfielder Stefan Lainer and midfielder Hannes Wolf are also out of action.

Wolfsburg News & Current Form:

The team is in 9th place in the Bundesliga table with 13 points, 5 points behind the European Cup zone. Wolfsburg’s game resembles a swing, the team can produce some very powerful meetings, and then fail.

Last time in the championship the Whites won back on the 30th of September, when they quite confidently dealt with Eintracht Frankfurt on the home field (2:0). But in October, Wolfsburg suffered three straight defeats, 1:3 at hands of VfB Stuttgart, 1:2 at home to Bayer and 2:3 lost to FC Augsburg. All these failures were absolutely well-deserved, although in both away games the Wolves won the first halves.

In the last round the team scored one point in the match with SV Werder Bremen (2:2), having lost their advantage in the 65th minute of the game. This draw was Wolfsburg’s first in the Bundesliga 2023/24, and also broke a streak of three defeats in this tournament.

Wolfsburg have conceded in every away match, and have lost the last 4. Even against Augsburg the Wolves made too many mistakes in front of their own goal. In that meeting, they allowed the opponent to create two clear scoring chances (more than 0.3G per shot). If the men of Kovac were thinking about competing for the Eurozone before the season started, now they have to settle for the middle of the standings.

As for the German Cup, one of the top matches of the second round took place between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig. Not surprisingly, the current holders of the domestic cup were considered the favorites of the meeting, moreover, and in the Bundesliga started better than the Wolves.

However, the team of Niko Kovac managed to surprise. The hero of the match was Vaclav Cerny, who scored the only goal in the 14th minute. This goal was the striker’s first for Wolfsburg. RB Leipzig had more possession in this match, while the opponents were waiting for their chances on the counterattack.

The Red Bulls had no luck at all, they couldn’t even equalize, and on 56 minutes they were left in the minority: Jussuf Poulsen was sent off for a foul on Mattias Svanberg. Towards the end of the match, the game became even more tense as yellow cards poured in for both sides.

Despite being outnumbered, RB continued to press, and a powerful strike from Lois Openda on 71 minutes almost resulted in a goal. But Niko Kovac’s team stood firm, and even at the end of the match almost scored a second goal.

As a result, the two-time German Cup winners unexpectedly crashed out at the 1/16 finals stage, while Wolfsburg continue their journey in the German Cup and will wait for their next opponent.

As for the injuries, the Wolves have an injured reservist Felix Lange, winger Patrick Wimmer and forward Lucas Nmecha, while main centerback Maxence Lacroix will miss this outing due to suspension.

The last time Wolfsburg beat Borussia Monchengladbach was back in 2019. Then in February, the Wolves smashed the Foals on their field with a score of 3:0, and in December they snatched a minimal victory at home with a 2:1. Four of the next seven face-to-face meetings between these rivals ended in a draw, with the Gladbach side winning the other three.

What has been said before the match:

Gaffer of the Foals Gerardo Seoane ahead of the Bundesliga clash:

Wolfsburg stand out because of their intensity, but they also play good, structured football. They’re versatile and keep things tight at the back. They cover a lot of distance and are excellent off the ball. We’ve got to make sure that we’re technically good in possession, especially with our build-up play, and do a lot of running in order to reduce the amount of pressure the opposition put on us. We’ve also got to bring the required intensity and aggression.”

“We all have to stay active when we’re in front. We can influence the game from the sidelines with instructions and substitutions. The leaders on the pitch still have to play their part, though. They have to confer amongst themselves and step in to break the opposition’s rhythm, so the team can be more active again.”

We’re definitely still missing something in the individual battles and we’re not as solid or as shrewd as we could be. But it’s a process and we’re working on it. I’m convinced that we’ll be able to make another step in the right direction on Friday.”

“Jonas and Ko have coped well with the initial phases of their respective injuries. Both of their recoveries are progressing as planned, although it’s possible for some setbacks to occur. They are working really hard with the physios in the gym. Having the operation was the right decision for both players, as it will allow them to play football pain-free in the future.”

Niko Kovac, head coach of VfL Wolfsburg, commented on his team’s results:

“We have to struggle a little bit when the opponent puts a little bit more pressure in the second half. I think because the last results in the second half were not so good, your head starts to think. If your head is thinking too much, it can create some fear and anxiety somewhere, and as a result you make a lot more mistakes than in the first half.”

“At the moment we’re not losing that much. We always play well in the first half but not so well in the second half. I remember last season. At that point we were doing a little bit worse and then we were doing pretty well.”

Borussia M’gladbach vs Wolfsburg Prediction:

Wolfsburg have been unable to upset Borussia Gladbach for four years now (7 matches). Four of those games ended in draws, while in the other three the victory was celebrated by the Gladbach side. In regards to the future game, despite the fact that both clubs are struggling in the middle of the table, the Black and Whites have a slight advantage in their quest to surpass the opponent and enter the upper half of the table. It’s worth noting that Gerardo Seoane’s team is playing poorly at home (only one win in five games), while Niko Kovac’s side have lost their last four away games in a row. Let’s be cautious and assume that Borussia Gladbach can get at least one point, as they have a perfect 3-match winning streak under their belt. At the same time, neither a win for the hosts with a minimum advantage nor a productive draw will surprise, no one intends to compromise.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Borussia M will not lose and the match total will be over 0.5 – Yes.
