Aston Villa will host Burnley at the Villa Park Stadium in the 27th round of the English Premier League. The match will take place on May 20, beginning at 00:30 IST.

At the bottom of the table of the strongest football сhampionship on the planet, the intrigue is certainly no lower than at the top. Burnley, already without Sean Dyche, are struggling for survival – they do have a good chance, with two games left to play, they need at least one draw, so the Clarets will beat Leeds United on goal difference. And if they manage to get a victory, the task will be done. The Yorkshire side have just one game left against tough Brentford – very unlikely for them to overcome Bees. However, it will all be decided in the last matchday. Now, there is a work to do.

Parimatchnews will tell you everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming match.

Aston Villa News & Current Form:

Aston Villa are 14th in the EPL table. The team have been performing with erratic results all season. The change of manager (Steven Gerrard) and the reinforcements in the winter transfer window with midfielder Philippe Coutinho and defender Luca Digne have proved to be instrumental. However, not as enormously beneficial as many fans would have wished.

The Birmingham side have had no trouble picking up points against underdogs and battling on equal terms with the mid-table sides. But they have had problems against strong opponents. A perfect example of this is the four recent defeats in a row in the EPL. 1-2 to West Ham, 0-1 to Arsenal, 1-2 to Wolverhampton and 0-4 to Tottenham.

The Villains also lost to Liverpool (1-2) in the 33rd round of the English championship. It was a miracle not to concede more. With this scenario, there is only one chance to clinch points in the remaining matches of the season – just a clash with Burnley. The final match against Manchester City is likely to become a real struggle.

The Lions recently took on Burnley in round 36 of the English Premier League and won 3-1. The game was played at equal speed, but the presence of two strikers – Olli Watkins and Danny Ings – decided the outcome of the encounter.

Burnley News & Current Form:

Perhaps because of their lack of attacking power, Burnley are currently at the bottom of the EPL standings – 18th place – now, they are at risk of relegation to the Championship. In 36 meetings, they have scored 32 goals in all competitions, concedeing 50. And this is despite the fact that the club’s management took steps to improve their attacking performance over the winter: Wout Weghorst was acquired from Wolfsburg

The mishap here is actually that Newcastle, being the main rival for survival back then, using allocated funds after the club was bought by new wealthy owners, made a very cunning and clever move in the winter – they simply ‘stole’ the Clarets’ main striking force, Chris Wood. Sean Dyche‘s entire game and tactics were built around this player. By activation of the buy-out clause, the Magpies seriously bloodied their direct rivals and thereby increased the chances of them remaining in the Premier League.

Following their abysmal results, Burnley recently saw a change of manager. Michael Jackson was appointed interim coach for the rest of the season. Under the Englishman, the side slightly revived, first tying the game with West Ham (1-1) in the match of the 33rd round of the PL, and then defeating Southampton (2-0), Wolverhampton (1-0) and Watford (2-1).

It was Aston Villa that broke the winning streak, actually. After a disappointing defeat, the Violets lost to Tottenham (0-1). The only one to commend was Nick Pope. He became a man of the match after his superb goalkeeing performance. It should be noted that Jackson’s charges managed only one shot on target that day – again, lack of attacking power.

What has been said before the match:

Steven Gerrard:

“I’m not sure how Burnley are going to approach it, whether they’re going to come with the attitude of ‘it’s a must-win game’ or whether they’ll come with the attitude that a point might be enough for them.”

“My focus is on us. We’ll be aggressive, we’re at home. We played at Burnley recently and we played extremely well and we won the game comfortably. We’ll definitely respect that Burnley are going to be the best version of themselves and it will definitely be a challenge. We know their strengths. They’ve been really strong under the new manager, and they’ve given themselves a decent chance of survival. They’re going to be all in and they’re going to empty it at Villa Park, so we need to compete and match that in all departments and hopefully our quality will come through.”

Mike Jackson:

“It’s in our hands, we know that, but we don’t look too far ahead. This group works best when it just focuses on the here and now. That’s the way we’ve always tried to approach it and mentally, we’re in a good place now because of that.”

“This group’s been in these sorts of situations before. They’ve been through these spells, so I think there’s a bit of calmness which comes with that. When you’ve been through it before, you know what’s important and what you need to focus on.”

Aston Villa vs Burnley Prediction:

Aston Villa have improved considerably under Gerrard. They are still under-resourced, but regularly beaten clubs of Burnley’s calibre. A change of mentor, reinforcements in the winter transfer window and the motivation to keep their place in the EPL did not help the the Clarets to win their last encounter. It seems they won’t be able to do so now either.

Nevertheless, the Burnley lads can surprise and show character by achieving, say, a draw – definitely don’t underestimate such a motivated team.

Parimatch News staff prediction:

We say: Aston Villa wil not lose and the match total under 3.5 – Yes.
