Ashley Becomes 6th Inter Milan Player to Test Corona Positive

35-year-old Winger Ashley Young has tested COVID-19 positive, making him the sixth Inter player to be Corona infected in the previous week. The news pops up less than one week before Inter plays Milan in a derby.

On Sunday, Inter Milan confirmed that Ashley Young has tested COVID-19 positive for at their training headquarters. Inter said the Englishman had taken the test on Friday. As per Serie A rules, he was in quarantine at home for 14 days.

There is now growing fear in Italy that the Derby may now not be played League match is scheduled to be held on October 17, 2020.

Ashley joins the teammates such as Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Radja Nainggolan, Ionu Radu, and Roberto Gagliardini that tested positive last week.

Inter, in their statement, said:

“Football Club Internazionale Milano has disclosed that Ashley has contracted COVID pandemic after conducting a test at Appiano Gentile. The English football player is now in isolation. It could leave the club ruined for Derby play against AC Milan”

The news associated with Ashley occurs a few days after he said he would be ready to walk from Italy if he had the opportunity to represent Watford. He said:

“If I could return and play again at Watford, I would walk from Italy now. It is what I know; it is where I come from, and it is what permitted me to be who I am today”

On Friday, AC Milan had also declared that Zlatan Ibrahimovic recovered well from deadly Coronavirus and is available to play for the derby match.

Inter have played three matches so far in Serie A and have won two of them. Ashley started his career with Premier League side Watford and made about 200 appearances for Manchester United.

Young has played in all the three Serie A games for the side of Antonio Conte in 2020- 2021 season. The decision on whether the match will be rescheduled is due from Indian courts next week.
