Elden Ring wins the game of the year at The Game Awards 2022
The Game Awards 2022 took place on the evening of December 8 in Los Angeles. Many awards were handed out throughout the course of this lengthy show, culminating with the announcement of the highly coveted overall Game of the Year award.
Elden Ring stood out to be the winner, amongst several highly popular and fascinating nominees like A Plague Tale: Requiem, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
In addition to overall Game of the Year, Elden Ring won Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG. God of War Ragnarok led all others with 10 total nominations, while Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West have 7 nominations each.
The awards ceremony was certainly an exciting affair and the viewers got to witness never-before-seen trailers of some of the most anticipated games in recent months, from Star Wars: Jedi Survivor to Final Fantasy 16 to Judas to Crash Team Rumble to Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, and many more.
The event was live-streamed across more than 40 digital platforms, alongside an additional IMAX experience. It featured musical performances from Halsey, Hozier, and Bear McCreary, and presentations from celebrity guests, including Reggie Fils-Aimé, Al Pacino, Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Ken and Roberta Williams.
The show introduced a new Best Adaptation award for media adapted from video games. Netflix’s “Arcane,” an animated take on the world of Riot’s “League of Legends,” took home the first best adaptation award.
