Bangladesh’s T20 technical consultant Sridharan Sriram has asked fans and local media to keep patience with the T20I team as they approach their temporary stage.

Bangladesh has lost both their games in the ongoing tri-series involving Pakistan and New Zealand as they’ve approached rejigging combinations.

Bangladesh has experimented heavily with their teams since the arrival of Sriram, moving towards make-shift openers while demoting regular opener Liton Das down the order, a ploy that has pushed Captain Shakib Al Hasan to clear his No.3 spot.

“I think we want to keep experimenting by giving people different roles and different challenges. We keep learning about them,”

Sriram said on Tuesday (October 11).

“In international cricket, we are bound to have ups and lows. I think we got to get steady through the ups and lows.

“We just request all the fans and media to keep supporting us. It’s about the country. It’s about the passion the country has. I assure you that the boys are doing their very best to bring glory to the country and the values we have in a team are to make Bangladesh proud and their fans.

“We just want to keep patience, we got the core squad that is going to do well in the future and we look forward to the World Cup and we will make Bangladesh proud with the brand of cricket we are going to play,”

he added.

Sriram said that he is already seeing improvements in the middle order with Yasir Ali and Nurul Hasan showing guarantee in the games against Pakistan and New Zealand respectively. He also believed that Nazmul Hossain had dazzled him batting at the top of the order.

“Very heartening to see Shanto (Nazmul) coming in even though [he scored only] 30 but the way he batted against Boult and Southee had a lot of positive things to take out. There has been a lot of improvement shown. Rabbi finished off against Haris Rouf and the way Nurul finished off, they are a positive sign as he is one of the best bowlers in the world. So they should take a lot of confidence from that,”

said Sriram.

“Pace bowlers too, they are executing a lot better. Taskin the way he bowled in the first game and in the second game Shoriful coming in bowling hard lengths and Hasan back after injury in the way he bowled in the last two games is positive. Fizz [Mustafizur] is working on a few things and he will be back very strong. Ebadot (Hossain) and Saif(Uddin) will get their opportunity,”

he added.

“Middle order… with Shakib coming back becomes very strong. Afif, Liton once they get going we will have a very formidable batting line-up,”

said Sriram.

“Shakib has been brilliantly keeping this environment. He is taking the boys out, he is always chatting with them. He has very clear plans on how he wants to take his team forward. He has all our support. We just want to let him run the team and we will support him from our ends,”

he added.
