We don't have a lot of experience playing here but one thing is for sure that there will be a lot of challenges, says Tamim Iqbal

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is expecting the South African line-up to come hard at them in the upcoming ODI series, starting from 18 March at Centurion.

While Bangladesh has never won a single game against South Africa on their soil followed by six Tests, nine ODIs, and four T20Is but they managed to beat them in the 50-over World Cup in England in 2019. Bangladesh also took the better-off South Africa in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is expecting the South African line-up to come hard at them in the upcoming ODI series, starting from 18 March at Centurion.

”We don’t have a lot of experience playing here but one thing is for sure there will be a lot of challenges. We are certain that they will come hard against us (considering we have beaten them in the World Cup) and we have to handle that,”

Tamim said in the presser.

”We have played well against them in the World Cup and there is no reason why we can’t do it here, but whatever I say, how we are making the start is important and later we will see how to proceed,”

he added.

Tamim Iqbal wants his side to play a fearless brand of cricket and also mentioned the fact that his side is based on a fairly experienced squad and most of them know their roles really well.

”If we have to change things around, we need to play a fearless brand of cricket and we have to face the challenge. I won’t say this series is difficult but it will be challenging and we should be able to take that challenge, considering apart from one or two guys, everyone has played around 40 to 50 ODIs and so everyone knows what is their role,”

he said.

Tamim also explained that Bangladesh is trying to practice more on pace and bounce as they are about to encounter the conditions where they will face a lot of pace and bounce.

He also stated that they are trying to get as much information as they can from the South African duo of Allan Donald and Albie Morkel.

Allan Donald, the legendary cricketer is named as the pace bowling coach while Albie Morkel is named as the power-hitting coach against South Africa.

”We have done three to four sessions here and we are trying to get adjusted with the conditions, but you have to remember that we don’t play in these conditions all the time.

”It’s a good sign that we have practiced in the centre-wicket but what I am saying is that we cannot adjust by having three to four sessions, so a lot will depend on our mentality and how we are coping with the conditions, because at the end of the day, how mentally you are prepared will matter.

”Donald joined while Morkel is with us for the last two days and we are trying to get as much information as possible. What I want to say is that you can have lots of information from them but how you execute in the middle is all that matters,”

he said.
