Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Delhi Capitals by 9 runs at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium

It was a spectacular game that took place in Delhi on Saturday evening as Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. It was a high-scoring thriller between the Orange Army and the Delhi Capitals with SRH winning the battle by 9 runs in the end.

Opener Abhishek Sharma was the top-scorer for his side with 67 runs off just 36 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and one maximum. Apart from him, Heinrich Klaasen scored a remarkable half-century with 53 off just 27 deliveries in the end. He smashed four maximums in his stupendous innings and took the fast bowlers by storm.

Other batters including skipper Aiden Markram and opener Mayank Agarwal failed to deliver in the important encounter as the duo could only score 8 runs and 5 runs respectively. Aggressive batsman Harry Brook batted in the middle order but the right-hander got out for a duck this time off Mitchell Marsh.

The mountainous score of 197 was possible due to the late strikes from Abdul Samad and Akeal Hosein as they scored 28 and 16 runs respectively but it was Klaasen who showed his class and put the Sunrisers in a great position at the end of the first innings.

Talking about Delhi’s bowling, Marsh proved to be the only asset for the side as he picked up 4 crucial wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs. Spinner Axar Patel was the other one who was a bit economical with 29 runs in his four overs with one wicket.

The hosts started off with a bang as Marsh and Philip Salt had a partnership of 112 runs after David Warner got out for a duck. Salt after scoring a magnificent half-century, fell for 59 and the downfall started afterwards.

Mitchell Marsh’s all-round heroics went in vain as SRH beat DC

Manish Pandey and Marsh soon lost their wicket and the pressure was clearly seen on the upcoming batters. Priyam Garg and Sarfaraz Khan’s failure almost ended the hopes for Delhi despite some effort from Axar Patel in the end. The man from Gujarat played a vital innings of 29 runs off just 14 balls but that was not enough to take his side across the winning line.

It was a good opportunity for Sarfaraz to showcase his talent in this situation but the right-hander got out cheaply for just 9 runs. He has produced some splendid shows in the past for Royal Challengers, however, it was not his day today.

Sunrisers’ bowlers were ordinary in the battle with pacers going for too many runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan were way away from their tricks as the duo were expensive today. On the other hand, Mayank Markande picked up two wickets for his side for just 20 runs taking the important wicket of Salt which helped in changing the course of the game.

Mitchell Marsh became the Player of the Match for his exceptional show with the bat and ball but the all-rounder must be disappointed as he couldn’t help his side win the game. Now, Delhi Capitals’ next game is against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad will play against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday at home.
