BCB president says the World Cup is in Australia where Sridharan has worked for a long time

The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Friday that it has named Sridharan Sriram as the specialized advisor of the Bangladesh national team in the shortest format till the T20 World Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Friday that it has named Sridharan Sriram as the specialized advisor of the Bangladesh national team in the shortest format till the T20 World Cup.

Sriram recently worked with the Australia national team for six years from 2016 and has also been engaged with the training staff of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He will show up in Dhaka on Sunday to take up his job.

“We have appointed him because he has got experience of working in IPL while the World Cup is in Australia where he has worked for a long time,”

BCB president Nazmul Hasan told reporters on Friday.

Nazmul revealed that Jamie Siddons’ job could change as he will be dealing with improvement as part of the long-term plan.

“He (Jamie) also wants that (to work with the development) but unfortunately he is traveling with the team and nothing is happening because he cannot develop in such a short time,”

he said.

“Jamie will certainly go in the World Cup but we don’t know whether we will send him to Asia Cup. If we don’t send him into Asia Cup, then we will be going without a batting coach, while if he goes then we will not have developed in this period so there are a lot of issues we are working on,”

he said.

Nazmul also highlighted that they could endeavor split training as they don’t know whether Domingo will be with the group in UAE for the Asia Cup this month.

“Whether we will have Domingo or not [at the Asia Cup] is something that will be decided on August 22 because we have to sit with him (Domingo) while we also have to sit with Sriram [and decide],”

he said.

“Our plan is for Domingo to concentrate on ODIs and Tests. We want to separate everything as there are a lot of games and Domingo can travel for all the series,”

he said.

“We have a lot of T20Is, so we want to separate it. The mental attitude required for T20Is is not like Tests or ODIs so we are thinking if we can have a separate coaching staff set up for the format. But first, we have to see how Sriram fares at the Asia Cup and the World Cup, and then we can decide whether we will bring him on board permanently for T20Is or find someone else.”

Bangladesh has a very busy schedule coming up in the 2023-27 cycle with as many as 150 matches scheduled across formats.
