Josh Davey stars as Scotland reached the Super 12s stage of the T20 World Cup after beating Oman by 8 wickets on Thursday at Oman Cricket Stadium.

The Scottish players chased down the below-par total of 123 runs with 18 balls to spare and confirmed their place in the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup for the first time in dominating style.

The skipper Kyle Coetzer was the highest scorer for Scotland after scoring 41 off 28 balls with three maximums and two boundaries despite taking a nasty blow on his hand.

Richie Berrington finished the game with a maximum to end his knock-on 31 not out. Matthew Cross was on the other end after scoring an unbeaten 26.

Scotland will directly go in Group 2 of the Super 12s to play alongside Afghanistan, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and the runners-up from qualifying Group A – likely to be either Ireland or Namibia.

Bangladesh who was outclassed by Scotland in the opening encounter secured their runners-up spot in Group B after beating Papua New Guinea by 84 runs.

They will be playing in Group 1 alongside Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, probably Sri Lanka, and one from Ireland and Namibia.

“What a day for Scottish cricket, the boys are buzzing,”

said man-of-the-match and fast bowler Josh Davey who took 3-25.

“It was a great occasion to showcase my skills; we had a bit of luck but will take that every day of the week.

“We’ve got the belief, a lot of bases covered, and T20 is about momentum, and we can take that on.”

Scotland came into the 2021 season of the T20 World Cup with a poor history as they never crossed the qualifying round in their previous three appearances after winning just one out of seven.

Bowling first, Scotland has restricted Oman to only 122 runs.

Earlier, Oman won the toss and opted to bat first, had a lousy start when Jatinder Singh was out the second ball following a terrible mix-up which put the side on the back seat.

Ilyas was the top scorer from Oman after scoring 37 off 35 balls but the home side never felt comfortable in front of the Scottish bowlers.

As a result, only three Oman batters came out in double figures.

Sri Lanka qualified for Super 12s on Wednesday from Group A with Ireland or Namibia to join them on Friday.

Ireland 177 for 3 (Delany 88, Taskin 2-26) beat Bangladesh 144 all out (Nurul 38, Adair 3-33, Young 2-21, Little 2-22) by 33 runs.
