Postponing the IPL Mega-Auction is a Good Idea

BCCI may postpone mega auctions for IPL 2021

The IPL mega-auction is to be held in the year 2021, and many franchises are already in favor of postponing it by one year. The IPL 2020 is to start on September 19, 2020, and with the ongoing sequence of events, franchisees will have only four months to prepare for the IPL mega auction.

The KKR Chief executive said that considering the short time between the finals of this edition and the beginning of the next season in April 2021, it would be right to postpone the mega auction by a year.

The last IPL mega auction was held in the year 2019 when the two teams Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings returned from their two-year band on account of a spot-fixing case. The chief executive also says that the Indian Premier League is a young league. It has been into its 13th year and players are still gaining experience playing it.

India managed to win the T 20 World Cup back in the year 2007 when the IPL failed to catch much attention of the public. The foreign players had more experience of playing the T20 format, as they used to play in the other leagues before coming to play IPL.

He further said that the Kolkata Knight Riders had experienced professionals to guide them. The assistant coach, the bowling coach and their head physio are all experienced guys and can prepare the team well for the IPL.

The IPL 2020 tournament will begin from September 19 and end on November 10 in the UAE in three cities – Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai. The first match will be held between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians on September 19. In the second match, Mumbai Indians will face Kolkata Knight Riders on September 23.
