According to sources, digital payments company Paytm that has been associated with Indian Premier League (IPL), and Team India has roped in cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a brand ambassador. Also, Paytm CEO hinted the same on Twitter.

It is not the first time Bharat Ratna winner has been associated with an Indian brand. Before this, Tendulkar had invested in a Bengaluru-based Internet of Things (IoT) company Smartron India and also was the ambassador of the company.

The cricketer has also been a part of a sports entertainment company Smaash. It is a gaming arcade company that offers users many digital entertainment options, such as football, bowling, cricket, and other recreational activities. He has also been into the clothing world as the player launched a premium menswear brand on Myntra.

Besides Sachin Tendulkar, other popular Indian cricketers have also been part of Indian startups, including Virat Kohli, M.S. Dhoni, Robin Uthappa, Sunil Gavaskar, Yuvraj Singh, Sourav Ganguly, and many others are included in the list.

The relationship between Indian cricket and startups is quite old as several Indian brands have been official partners and sponsors of the IPL and other championships. For example, BYJU’S sponsored the official jersey of Indian cricket and other companies like Paytm, Dream11, and Unacademy fall into the same category.

For IPL 2020, Dream11 has replaced VIVO and has become the official sponsor of the upcoming Indian Premier League after bidding INR 222 Crore. Therefore, this year’s IPL will be Dream11 IPL instead of VIVO IPL. The umpires are going to wear the jersey that will display the brand name, and the name can be noticed on other branding materials too.

In 2019, Paytm became the Official Umpire Partner and on-ground sponsor of the mobile wallet brand. The Indian company is also the title sponsor of Indian cricket.
