Bangladesh test skipper Mominul Haque said Bangladesh will take confidence from the first drawn test of putting up complete team efforts as they head to Dhaka for the series-concluding the second game.

Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque said Bangladesh will take confidence from the first drawn test of putting up complete team efforts as they head to Dhaka for the series-concluding the second game.

Bangladesh has drawn the test game against Sri Lanka, but more importantly, managed to leave behind their disappointing performance in South Africa.

“I think this Test draw will help us in Dhaka,”

Mominul said after the opening Test in Chattogram on Thursday (May 19).

“Everybody is among the runs and we played like a team whether it is the batsmen or bowlers, and whenever we play like a team we always get positive results. We are always in a good position whenever we put up a combined effort,”

he said.

Mominul further added that he is disappointed that the place bowling unit failed to put up a performance, failing to pick a single wicket.

“I think the pace bowlers could have bowled better because we have expectations from them and what I feel is that they (pacers) could have bowled better in the first innings,”

said Mominul.

“Shoriful was not there in the first innings but I would have been pleased if Khaled had bowled better lengths because that would have been good,”

he said, adding that he is satisfied with the performance of the spinners and Shakib in particular.

“I think it was difficult for spinners to pick wickets on this surface, so I felt the role of Nayeem and Shakib Bhai was important.

“If you had seen, runs were coming thick and fast in the first innings and Shakib Bhai and Taijul held it (slowed it down). I think Shakib Bhai’s performance in the first innings was extremely good while in the second innings it was the same.

“The wickets in Dhaka and Mirpur are different and it is not that I could not use bowlers here (on this flat wicket) because what I feel is that you can always use your bowlers if they are aware of their plan and know how to execute that. You have to adapt to every condition you play and this is a mental thing. Here the spin comes a bit late but in Dhaka, the ball turns quickly and it will come into the wicket.

“I think everyone can make the adjustment going to Chattogram,”

he said.
