"I needed to focus and my teammates Mominul and Taijul supported me and pushed me and I am really thankful to those players for helping me make a comeback,'' Mehidy said

Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan thanked Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam for helping him to bring back his focus in the game as it was a crucial second day to decide the fate of the Test match.

West Indies were dismissed on 265 after tea but are still in command, leading the game by 112 runs as Bangladesh ended their day 2 play on 50/2.

Bangladesh off-spinner Mehidy Hasan thanked Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam for helping him to bring back his focus in the game as it was a crucial second day to decide the fate of the Test match.

The off-spinner stole the show for the tourists by picking a four-fer to get them the slightest chance of winning the game.

Bangladesh seamer Khaled took the better off Kraigg Braithwaite on 94 which started a trend as the hosts lost their last seven wickets for only 68 runs and Mehidy was the game-changer who picked four on the last six balls before tea.

Mehidy, who finished his figures on 4-59, was disappointed that he failed to perform in his first two or three spells, trying to pick up wickets instead of saving runs.

”I was disappointed in the first two-three spells because I didn’t bowl in the right areas,”

he said on Friday (June 17).

“I needed to focus and my teammates Mominul and Taijul supported me and pushed me and I am really thankful to those players for helping me make a comeback,” Mehidy said after the match.

”I think the wicket is a little bit slow and it’s best if you bowl in the right areas all the time as the batsman might give the chance to bowl in the right areas. So I was looking for dot balls because the first two or three spells I was looking for like getting wickets and that was the problem. Afterward, I was trying to minimize it (giving runs) because I felt if I give two to two-and-a-half runs per over it might give me the opportunity and it’s just things like that (which worked for me),”

he said.

He also talked about the missed opportunity that was given to him to bat at the number 3 spot.

”Actually, we did not want to lose our batsmen because today 45 minutes were left (when I went to bat) and it was a big opportunity for me because if you get runs in the middle it’s good for me. I could not do it (seizing the opportunity) but next time I will,”

he said.

”We want to play ball by ball. If you play well and top-order batsmen can get a hundred-run partnership or say if you get two hundred and two 70-plus partnerships, it might give us a chance. We are thinking to bat the whole day tomorrow and if you play well we might get a chance,”

he said.

Bangladesh 103 and 50 for 2 (Mahmudul 18*, Joseph 2-14) trail West Indies 265 (Brathwaite 94, Blackwood 63, Mehidy 4-59) by 112 runs
