Arshdeep Singh to play County cricket in England for Kent

Arshdeep Singh is a key bowler for India in the shortest format of the sport.

The left-arm India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has joined English county cricket team Kent for a few matches this season. 

Post approval, Arshdeep Singh will be available for home matches for Kent against Surrey, Warwickshire and will also travel to Northamptonshire, Essex and Nottinghamshire in the County championship in June and July this year.

The left-arm young Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh has established himself as a permanent fixture in the Indian cricket team at least in the shortest format after having impressive tournaments in the Asia Cup 2022 as well as the ICC T-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

The stocks have been on the rise for the young Arshdeep Singh Ever since he made an impressive start for Punjab Kings in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), taking 10 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.70.

Arshdeep Singh has also been able to make his international debut for India in the shortest format, with all of his three one-day international matches coming against New Zealand last November and has also made his T20I debut against England.

ESPNCricinfo quoted Arshdeep Singh as saying, ”I am excited to play red-ball cricket in England and continue to improve my skills in the first-class game. Rahul Dravid has already told me it is a club with a great history.”

Arshdeep Singh will be playing for county side Kent this season alongside Australia fast bowler Kane Richardson as well as South African spin bowling all-rounder George Lind.

Paul Downton, Kent’s director of cricket, said, “We’re delighted to have a player of Arshdeep’s potential join us for five matches this summer. He has demonstrated that he has world-class skills with the white ball, and I am very confident he will be able to put those skills to good use with the red ball in the County Championship.”
