RR’s Riyam Parag and RCB’s skipper, Virat Kohli had a recent discussion in which the veteran gave him some valuable ideas including the advice that Parag should focus on getting 20-30 crucial runs to get his team through.

Riyan Parag briefly introduced his talent against Punjab Kings in the first match of Rajasthan Royals. The 19-year old smashed 25 off just 11 balls to test his metal against an experienced bowling line-up.

Parag has now opened up about the advice that he received from the legendary batsman, Virat Kohli. The young gun stated that he had a conversation with the skipper last year and he advised him to focus on his batting and stop worrying about Orange Cap.

He further added that Kohli advised him to add the crucial 20-30 runs to get his team through the phase. Parag confessed that from there on his only intentions were to play for the benefit of the team.

“No, it doesn’t actually [if not getting a lot of chances to bat matters to him]. I had a chat with Virat Kohli during thle last IPL. He specifically told me that ‘you are not going to get the Orange Cap. You bat No. 5 or No. 6 so there is no point in you thinking about the Orange Cap. You just think about how you can get those crucial 20 or 30 runs and when you get the chance to go in at a crlucial phase, just think how you can get the team through.’ So that really fit in my mind and now I don’t think about how many runs I’m getting, I just think how my runs are benefiting the team,”

said Parag as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Riyan Parag said that talented cricketers come to play IPL from all over the world. The RR youngster concluded that playing with or against legendary players like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli makes the young players mentally strong.

“Mentally, it has been a big positive impact. When you play for your state, you get to play India’s best players. But when you play IPL, you get to share the dressing room with players like Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer. These are top current international cricket players. And then when you come up against people like Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni, it makes you mentally very strong,”

Parag concluded.
