SRH lost their third match against Mumbai Indians

As the IPL 2021 season started, fans & all the cricket puntis were looking forward for Sunrisers Hyderabad to outperform as they are the most balanced in the current season of Indian Premier League. They have the best batting & bowling line up with the most dependable all rounders.

Even after so much of strength & equilibrium, SRH has lost all the three matches they have played yet in the new season & they have created a history for themselves as they have never faced this situation ever in the history of IPL.

Recently, they lost their third match against Mumbai Indians which has placed them in a huge disadvantage for their future in IPL 2021. To be clear, the Chennai pitch doesn’t make hitting the big shots easy. The odd ball sticks, some have extra bounce and if the bowlers don’t bowl it in the slot, it is difficult to score the big runs quickly. But it is possible to bat and bat well – as Kieron Pollard showed in the MI innings – if you are prepared to wait for the right ball.

If we look at stats in last two matches:

SRH Vs MI : After 10 overs, SRH 77, 8 wickets in hand

SRH Vs RCB : After 10 overs, SRH were 73, 9 wickets in hand

If they were in such a good position then the question comes: what went wrong? What happened to their middle order? In fact, the right question to ask is where is their middle order?

Looking at the experience of SRH, it’s easier for them to put back the pressure on the opposition but that’s not been happening. In reality, their inexperienced middle order is taking the pressure to perform & losing everything brick by brick. Against MI, they picked Abhishek Sharma, Virat Singh and Abdul Samad in the playing XI. All talented batsmen and good hitters but they are not experienced and they don’t quite know what to do when put under pressure.

“I don’t know how to take that,”

said Warner after the loss.

“Two of us got set, my run out, Jonny stepping on his wickets, and false shots in the middle proved that if you don’t have two guys at the end, you don’t win. These scores are very chaseable, it’s just poor batting. If you get a partnership and have one guy at the end, you can chase down 150 easily. You just need smart cricket in the middle, we aren’t doing that.”

It is clear that SRH is in a difficult position right now & they will have to go on a winning streak to make things better & win the trophy.
