The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has repeated once again that there has been no impact of the rise in coronavirus cases in the city as it gears up to host Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 matches with the tournament starting on Friday. The clarification from the cricket governing body comes after the state government announced severe restrictions in the state to control the rapid surge of the pandemic.

However, according to Cricbuzz, the Mumbai Cricket Association is confident that there will be absolutely no impact on the IPL matches at one of India’s best cricketing venues, the Wankhede Stadium, as it is set to host 10 matches in IPL 2021 tournament.

A MCA official said,

”We have had a call from the city municipal commissioner. The association has been assured that the lockdown measures will have no impact on the IPL games. The other cricketing activities will, however, have to be immediately stopped. Any cricket activity that is part of a bio-secure bubble will be permitted uninterrupted.”

The Wankhede Stadium is set to host 10 matches this season with some of the games to be played on weekends. Starting with the opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals on Saturday, Mumbai will also be hosting the other IPL teams in Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
